My little boy accidently stepped on our little kitten's head this afternoon. The kitten "Loki" went into a seizure , a little blood from the nose, mama cat still coming to check on him, brother kitten won't leave his side.

We can't afford the cost to save him , yet did not have the heart to put him to sleep. He is only 5 weeks old. My son is so sad and feeling so much guilt. He has re-acted a couple times to mama and other kittens meows. Ears are cold, breathing slow.

Will you pray, or at least, give us ideas to help get him better, or help him pass.

We did take it to the vet, and got him a shot, and brought him home. We aren't being cruel. The vet said if we left him there was no guarantee he would live. We could not leave him there just to die alone!

OMG! I should have said ......WE TOOK HIM IMMEDIATELY TO THE VET. It is just we knew that keeping him there to die alone was what we felt was cruel. He has been given a shot of I guess baby pain killer. UPDATE: Loki just moved his back legs and tail for the first time in 6 hours, and twitched his ears when brother Ace licked them!

Please.......affording a medical bill to HOUSE a dying creature was our problem. We afforded the treatment they could do for him. Just couldn't see leaving him there to die and keep paying for it?

The kitten has suffered a major cranial trauma. Only time is going to tell if it will recover. The fact that it is responding to stimuli is a good sign. Most likely It cannot suckle right now and for a while. Use condensed milk and an eye dropper to feed it. You must keep it hydrated,(plenty of water). If it lasts the night then the chances are good for a recovery. Just remember that bones take time to heal so the kitten must be kept away from youngsters and their clumsy hands for a couple of weeks.

I don't think there is much to do for the Kitten except wait and see. But due to the age of the kitten it might go either way. The bones are still soft at 5 weeks and that might have allowed trama to the brain. BUT on the other hand it might be able to repair the damage for the same reason. The ears are always cold so that has no indication of the condition of the kitten...but the fact that the other kitten won't leave it does not look good. They know the condition of the kitten better then we can and they can usually smell death and sickness. I would wait two weeks and monitor him closely, if you don't see improvement then I would think about putting him down. You might want to call the humane society or local animal shelter if you can't afford to take him to the vet they might be able to give you some ideas.

As others have said, allowing the little kitten to suffer is cruel, not only for the kitten but for the boy. It was an accident and noone is at fault. You can however use this as an opportunity for the boy to learn a very valuable lesson about the fragility of life. Take the kitten to the SPCA or a comparable place where they usually have qualified people to check the kitten out and evaluate the situation. They may give the kitten emergency treatment . If it is beyond the expertise of the staff at the SPCA, they will refer you to a low cost vet(or one who will not press to get paid immediately (Hippocratic Oath). When you take the kitten be sure that you take the mother and her other children with you for companionship (It gives the sick one moral support) and of course your son. If there is a flicker of a chance of saving the kitty, we must do what is necessary. If there is no chance of survival, we must not let the kitten suffer. If it's late, please check for emergency vets or a university hospital.

That is cruel. If you don't have the money to take proper care of a kitten, don't bring one into the world. Too many animals are brought into the world just to die, it isn't right. I'm sure you could skip a few good meals or something to save his life or end the suffering. There is a life on the line. I'll pray for him, but he's probably gonna die.

What a sad story. My best advice i to keep the kitten warm. Try dabbing a mixture of warm milk and egg in the inside of his mouth, possibly with a n eyedropper if you have one. Keep the kitten warm, on a hot water bottle wrapped in blankets. If he is in great pain, I hate to say it, but you probably ought to put in down yourself, which I know sounds terrible, but I'm originally a country girl and its beter than watching it suffer. However, from your description I wouldn't highly reccomend this. If it got crushed, don't feel guilty for not having enough mone, as I'd say a vet couldn't do much anyway. If the kitten dies, take the time to go over heaven with your son and try not to leave him with feelings of guilt. I will indeed be praying for Loki, and hope everything works out for you.

How very very sad. I hope you little boy will be OK. Tell him it's an accident and not his fault. Poor boy.
I think you should have had the baby euthanized. It is better than letting him linger in pain. Not to mention the boy watching him die by agonizing inches.
Keep him warm, and if he lives the night through, see if he will nurse from mama or drink a few drops from an eyedropper.
All you can do is keep him comfortable.
Good Luck to you and my thoughts and prayers certainly go out to you.

I realize you both are extremely upset about the situation; its very sad, but prayer and hope alone are not going to get your cat healthy again. I strongly recommend you to take him to the vet as soon as possible. I realize you may not have very much money, but it's only a kitten and it shouldn't cost much; besides, wouldn't it be better just to pay the extra dollar to bring you're cat back to health, or to at least put it out of its misery? That's the least you could do.
Hope it works out, tell your son to be careful in the future. :)

When I was a kid I was staying with my aunt who use to bred cats. I was helping her carry in bags of cat litter and one slipped out of the top of the pile I was carrying and fell on a kitten breaking its neck. It flopped around for a while and bled from its nose. I felt terrible and still do when I think about it all these years latter. It died a few hours latter. I would just have it put to sleep and end its suffering as there's nothing that can be done for it. Sorry.

I will pray for the kitten's life. Buddhism is very strict on how life is treated; it must be respected--honored while it is present, and allowed to leave when it passes. Though the fighting spirit in me says it is probable the kitten's skull was cracked and it won't survive without veteranary attention.

There are clinics that take on charity cases. A five-week-old kitten is certainly a special case, and I'll bet a cat specialty clinic will agree to treat it for a nominal fee, or for free.

Good luck. I hope the kitten survives. Please try to get it medical attention. As I said, you have my heart and my prayers.

that is too sad - go to a emergency animal hospital and see if they will take low monthly payments or if they will do a charity case - not doing it is kinds like animal cruelty and if you cantact the ASPCA I think it is - they would send someone to take the kitten to save it rather than you just letting it die. Please - that isn't right.

I am sorry to say but if you can't afford the medical needs having an animal can incur, you shouldn't have one. that is cruel.

at least drop it off at a shelter or somewhere that can help the poor kitten instead of just watching it die - what is with all these answers like oh so sad, etc - how could you just let an animal die

TAKE THE POOR KITTEN SOMEWHERE SO IT CAN BE HELPED - GIVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP IT AND JUST DON'T GIVE YOUR NAME AND INFO - JUST DROP IT OFF AND SAY PLEASE MY BOY STEPPED ON ITS HEAD

god i feel totally sick - how disturbing
