My family told me it was a long time since we had a family holiday - booked a house big enough for all of us, and twelve of us had a wonderful week away together in Spain. That's one surprise birhday present I won't forget.

Try mix few things together.

May go out for nice breakfast then go do something crazy like sky diving or rent a iet ski then come home for a massage or something.

Also if you're gonna buy him some gifts, make sure throw in at least one thing that younger people are attract to such as Arsh listed. He may will ignore it for a while but after a while he will be curious and try it out,.

Well casino night, luaha party, karaoke, costume party, 50's sock hop. Wow there are so many things. Do something that the 2 of you enjoy. You could even have a party at home with friends or rent a hall.

fly out to some city and just spend one day there. do something fun, and eat at a really nice restaurant.
example: las vegas, new york (manhatten- see a broadway show/walk through a museum), a nice beach (maybe go boating)
or if hubby is into some kind of sports...go see a game in a city (that u don't live in).

How about having a family portrait taken as a surprise, or make a shadow box with things he likes, like golf items, fishing lures, etc.

Take him to something or place having a 55th anniversary, on his birthday, if you can find it.

You can also name a star after him, or adopt a portion of road in his name.

Even still, you can buy him that song with the lyrics "I cant drive... 55!"

And throw him a birthday bash with home made speed limit 55 signs all over.

You can also find (his favorite sport) a jersey with 55 on it. That would be special.

You can make him 55 cookies, or candies or something, and give him 55 home made gift certificates (like 5 massages, 10 gourmet meals, 10 carwashes, etc)

Theres a million different things you can do to make him feel good about his special day!

Have FUN!!!!!

=)
