I've had my license for about 4 months now, and I'm not able to drive because "I don't have insurance." I'm just curious about how this actually works. Is it like, I have to have my own coverage? Or do my parents cover me? or.... whaaa? >_<''

Insurance is coverage for a CAR, regardless of who is driving unless specifically excluded from the policy. Liability is required in order to cover damages and /or injuries you (or your car) may do to someone else. Your parents can add you to their insurance but it will be a specific policy written for your car and cost of coverage will be determined by your age, type of vehicle, etc. PS -- get three jobs.

The policy covers the vehicle, as well as any licensed driver that operates it. If you don't own a car, you do NOT need insurance! If your parents own a vehicle, they MUST list you on the policy, either an an authorized driver or an unauthorized driver. If you're an authorized driver, you may drive their car and are covered by their insurance.

You have to have your own policy or your parents have to add you to theirs.
