Absolutely hilarious. Especially if you know the person and it is not done as a mean thing, but a fun thing.
Etiquettewise, it seems most acceptable if it is their birthday and it is actually cake thrown, not pie. Although it must be noted that pie sticks much better.

It is hilarious. Especially if it is someone who you don't like or someone that you would not expect to get a pie in the face. For example, a clown getting a pie in the face is not that funny, but when Bill Gates (world richest man) got a pie in the face it was the most funny thing I have ever seen. He was in front of a bunch of cameramen and surrounded by bodyguards and this guy mande his way through the crowd and managed to hit Gates with a pie.

Depends upon who you are, and the situation.
A clown at a circus, or really anywhere that you know it was probably planned... I would think there's a set of people that would find that funny.
However, in some situation where the person didn't have any indication it was coming, where it may even ruin their clothes (or at least cause a dry cleaning bill), the person is a celebrity that doesn't know, etc... personally, I don't find that funny.
BTW, as you posted this in Etiquette... I really doubt that it's polite or proper etiquette to throw a pie in someone's face unless it's a planned thing that they're participating in.

I would think so, yes. I know that it's not edicut to laugh - but how could you possibly not?
Years ago, I thought food throwing was hysterical, in fact - I threw a meat pie at a man who was being really cruel to me. I was so upset at him for what he had said to me, but after I threw the pie i felt better!
The meat splattered all over his face and it looked so comical that I had to run to find the nearest ladies room!
Needless to say, I said sorry and he did forgive me. But I laughed for years later about this incident and now all the memory's have come back!
Thank you.
Love and joy

Yes, in a theatrical performance where the recipient knows it's coming. In any other context it's called battery.

Not really. Not even when it happens on the Brady Bunch.
