A combination of being overweight and irregular periods raises the possibility of polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD). I suspect you are seeing an Ob/Gyn and not a primary care doc? You may want to ask about PCOD...they can run blood tests for estrogen, testosterone, lutenizing hormone (LH), and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and look for patterns indicating dysfunction. You may be having cycles where you aren't releasing an egg. Don't view the birth control pills as contraceptives but rather as giving you estrogen to try to regulate your cycles.

It is important that your doc figures out what is going on. If your cycles can become regulated, perhaps you could use an ovulation kit to improve your chances. However, in the future, you may need the assistance of a good infertility clinic...if there is a university hospital nearby they typically have one.

check into chiropractic care. I worked in an office and i recall a woman that experienced very irregular periods and after a few months of care, her menstrual cycle regulated so that she cycled about every 28 days. While chiropractic doesn't have specific research about helping women to conceive, many patients have attributed adjustments to things such as: regulating menstrual cycles, easier child birthing and even the ability to conceive. There can be a correlation with low back spinal misalignment's and pelvic misalignment's that could be a cause of your in irregular periods and inability to conceive. I agree with you on not taking oral contraceptives because they take so long to get out of your body, but just so you know, even when you do conceive, you can still receive chiropractic care and it will not harm you or your baby. If this solution is to no avail, look into having yourself and you husband checked regarding your fertility. Good Luck!

Infertility is not getting pregnant after 12 months of unprotected sex.

the following could help:

make love more often

since you can already assess how long your menstrual cycle is (you said 50days), count 14 days backward and that is the day you may have ovulated, the best time to make love

there are medications like clomiphene citrate (but you're susceptible in twin pregnancies if not prescribed well)

First, listen to what your doctor is telling you politely: it is not in your best health (and your potential child's health) for you to have a child "overweight". Lose weight first. As you know, women gain weight during pregancy and sometimes it is a danger to them as well as their unborn child. Don't put yourself in danger, and don't have a child with health problems you can prevent (ie, juvenile diabetes, etc.).

It is difficult enough to have healthy children at birth - do the best thing: get yourself in the best possible physical and emotional shape you can. Then get pregnant.

Maybe your doctor isn't so blunt, but lose the weight - it's unhealthy any way you look at it.

I guess you mean that your doctor has suggested that you DO USE contraceptives?? .. Ouch, - I guess he thinks that you should not be / become pregnant?

You may want to consider other options while you're trying for kids. Maybe foster care or adoption, or working in the child care field.

I think maybe you are trying too hard. Just relax and maybe it will happen.
