I don’t believe that religion causes wars and infanticide; people cause this. Religion is an abstract concept that lacks the power to make anybody do anything. What is behind a radical religious idea is usually someone interpreting religion in the manner that most benefits him. Think about it, people are people. We all have underlying issues that cause us to behave in a manner that is not socially acceptable. If we did not have religion to validate our wrong doings I’m sure we humans would find another medium to justify our actions, like race, sexual preference, differing views. It’s human nature to separate ourselves from others and create small familiar groups of like minded individuals. Even lesser primates do this. Sadly an ill affect of grouping ourselves off into groups can be scapegoating others, the “out-group,” which can lead to violence. As for “mothers killing there babies because Satan said so,” I believe there are deeper underlying issues involved. These issues are usually brushed aside in favor of the more interesting “satanic” reason.

I think you got it slightly off. "God" did not kill ppl, nor did Satan.
Being an atheist means one also has to account for the bad stuff human did to themselves. How could one believe that there is no "God" and then turn around to say everything is "God"s fault? Surely you understand that we created "religions" and the "gods" to go with them. That's the only way for an atheist.
One problem I kept seeing is that atheists keep blaming the irrational and illogical practice of believing in "God", but not point out the hopes and help religious teachings has achieved. It is a two ways street, so be fair.
No wonder Christians are a bit upset to be dealing with atheists...

My dear girl, how can you possibly believe that there is no God? Dont you look around you everyday? Where do you think all these things came from? Where do you think you came from? You must certainly think that some things are right and wrong. Where do you think that realisation of good and bad came from? Religion I agree, has taken on a whole new meaning.... but do not confuse religion with the existance of God. If you would only take some time to truly look at things surrounding you, at the stars in the sky, at the way the human body functions - you would realise that things that perfect do not occur out of nowhere.

God is not religion Man is religion. God is spirituality. There is only one true God, God the Father. Man makes religion. People are given free will to master their lives. Some use Satan as an excuse but in reality it is they who make the final choice to take or not take an action, not God. God gets a bad rap when things go wrong. Try looking at it from the free will point of view and you will be surprised what you will see and learn.

Sad isn't it that most people respond with the 'how dare you judge my beliefs, now change yours' routine, to answer your question, there are lots of people who don't believe in any god, and there are more every day, especially now that there is so much "holy war" going on. There has been some good that has come from religions, our morals and laws to name the two most important. The funny thing about religion is that they all basically worship the same deity, just calling him/her different names. So, even though it seems silly, perhaps there is some basis to this belief . 95% of the world can't be wrong

So, People believing in God caused all the wars in the world? None of it had to do with power, greed, money, oil, land, control, racism or ignorance? I'm not saying there is a God or there isnt, and I get what you are saying to a certain degree, however I feel it is a somewhat narrow minded statement. No offense intended

What does the 21st century has to do with anything? People started wearing clothes over six-thousand years ago, and we still do. Is that nonsense as well. I could go on with that point alone. If you are referring to people becoming wiser, I think you have it backward. Two hundred years ago, we had less abortions than today?
BTW-God said these things were going to happen. He wrote it in His book. Yes, the one true and living God.

I do not believe in god as such. I do believe in higher beings, but not gods. Ever watch the TV show, Supernatural? I personally believe that all of that kind of stuff, demons and monsters, are real, 100%, as real as you or me.

I agree, however i do see the good that can come from religion.
Some people only do good because they believe that is what god wants. It would definitely be better for them to do it just because its the right thing to do, but if the idea of god helps them, let them believe.
But then there are people like the second guy who answered. he says ur not doing anything either. i dont know if u are or not, but i doubt that he knows u. he claims to be religious and judges others. thats the kind of BS i hate

Well, IMHO, there are many Chief Princes of the Lands and not all are good.
Now, there should only be one supreme diety should one exist, else infighting would cause visibility. And, unless we simply live in a world of a mathematical fluke, there should be.
