Using any kind of heat on your hair can be, well devestating. Lots of people here gave you advice, but lets go deeper into what could be happening.
You didn't mention what the texture of your hair really is. If it is a tight curl, are you sure your straightening with a Demen Brush, and a Blow Dryer enough. 1 Pass with a flat iron should be enough to get through your hair. 2-3 for silk.
What products are you putting on your hair before you put the heat to your head?
Make sure you apply a heat seal every time you use heat. This will help protect this shaft of the hair, by sealing it from such harsh drying.
Someone hear mentioned moisture shampoo, don't use this, if you have colored hair. It will strip your color. Healthy hair, isn't just shiny and smooth, you need protien too. Make sure your using a good protien/strength shampoo, along with an intense color friendly conditioning creme.
Some products I would recomment would be. Paul Mitchell Heat Seal. Paul Mitchell Strong, and Paul Mitchell The Conditioner.

Yeah it's one of the worst. Cut your hair often and use a leave-in or some wax before you straighten. The best you can do is take good care of it and try to keep it nice.

i ve rebonded my hair twice, and straightened it a couple of time too. i would say yes, it damge ur hair. after rebonding i have more hair falls.. i suppose is due to the heat during the process. but after a while it s ok. try using conditioner and hair wax treatment to restall the healthy hair cuticles. some home-made remedies are wrapping your hair in warm towels with olive oil and egg/eggyolk

yes it does....it doesnt matter what kind it is...it still does...but if u protect ur hair using quality salon products u will be fine.. So u have to either pay the high prices for healthy hair or have dry hair...and split ends.

If you straighten it often, then definitely! The heat ruins your hair.
