I have read about it out of curiosity, it seems very contribed. I am part Native, not Isreali. The Bible says there are no more prophits after Jesus until his return, so it conficts. And he was a fraudulant banker. He says to be peaceful and a Jesus believer, why did he shoot at his attackers... WWJD? Jesus did not attack back. I don't really care, but, am curious.

people believe in the "Mormon stuff" because the Mormons make it all seem good and Christian to the outside world like it is all about family like they are truly Christians. Or they are born into it and do not know better and are brain washed. I was the latter. I left the Mormon Church when I was 15 though. I am very glad I had friends who showed me the light. It was only recently that I found out a lot of the stuff that Mormons do in the temples and was convinced they are a cult and have wondered if anyone who is Mormon can be a Christian.

Mormons deny a lot of truths about there own religion and the youth do not know everything that happens. They are kinda thrown into it and only learn a little at a time and are brain washed through things like primary and when they get older seminary classes really get them and institute classes always more classes like they need to be continuously trained.
Lots of brain washing!

People believe because they have studied the doctrine, prayed about it, lived its principles, and received a witness from the Holy Ghost that it is true.

I am not sure which scripture you are referring to that says that there will be no more prophets. The bible does say that “surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophet.” So, either God is doing nothing, or he has prophets. The bible also says that “I am the Lord, and I change not.” So either he has prophets, as he always has, or he has changed. The New Testament further states that “he gave some, apostles and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in a unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God…” So, either we have arrived at a unity of faith (hardly) or we should still have prophets and apostles helping to accomplish this goal.

As far as “him” being a fraudulent banker, I am assuming that you are speaking of Joseph Smith. This is a criticism that I am not familiar with but there will always be critics. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and perhaps you should study and read what he taught before you pass judgment.

As far as the bible teaching peace, I agree, but the Lord has always defended his people. Read the entire bible if you have any doubts about that. By the way, Joseph Smith gave his life for the Gospel and was martyred by a mob. He was not the only member of the church who has died for the truth.

To Truthful: For a basic understanding of our beliefs, visit www.mormon.org or www.lds.org

To Godistheanswer: It is all about Jesus Christ and we believe in it because it is true. It is not about pretending to be good so the world sees us. It is about being good because we love God. Each member is responsible for their own study and testimony of the Gospel. I joined the church at age 17 and nothing was hidden or kept from me. I have participated in all the ordinances of the church and they are not cult-like. We do not deny the truth, however, at times, we do have to defend ourselves from people who seek to twist it. As far as brainwashing, this never occurs. Yes, we offer classes to teach and educate all members. As I stated before, it is each member’s responsibility to learn and understand the doctrines of the church. I am sorry that you felt brainwashed. Perhaps, now that you are older you should read the Book of Mormon and gain your own testimony rather than rely on your friends’ insight.

I agree with oldman, your attitude is one of persecution and hate (Satan) not of curious or Love (Christ). Where in the Bible does it state that there will never be another prophet until Christ returns. Your lies will be your undoing. There is no truth in Joseph Smith shot back yes he had a gun but it was never fired, he was shot while standing at the window, then when he fell he was shot more times then is necessary, The men who killed Joseph Smith all died harsh deaths. Waldo Emerson said, that it is time for a new revelation," Joseph Smith gave that new revelation and like the Lords anointed in ancient times he sealed his work with his blood by evil and corrupted men. I pray you repent and turn away from your wicked ways before it is to late, instead of persecuting them why not try to truly understand them, read The Book of Mormon and truly pray about it. If you say you have then I will say your a liar, for if you truly have read it then you would now that it speaks the words of God.

Because people in general need something to believe in, good or bad. Pretty much the way you have different sects within the Muslim religion, 99% are peaceful people, then you have your jello eating extremists.

I will just comment on your actual question. People believe because they receive a testamony. They have a personal experience that it is true. That's not much different than any other faith.
