Humping is not only to make pups, but also to show who's boss. It is not just a sex thing. Female dogs and male dogs will do that, to show the other who is the boss, as in the alpha male or female.
Dogs sniff each other and people to get the scent of the person and othe ranimal. Females have a scent that the puppies know, so they can tell who is their mother and who isn't..

They sniff to get a scent, but the true reason as to why the BUTT area, is sorry to say, but as to the joke about men and (sorry ladies) women having skid marks on their drawers (underwear), well there's more of a scent there ok, and they go to the area where there is more of a scent!!! Think about it!! As to HOW do they hump each other, well you ever heard of doggie style? And do you have sex just one way? Think about it, they walk on all fours so how are they going to do it? They do it natures way of allowing IT to happen.

THE BUTT SNIFFEING IS PRETTY MUCH HOW THEY SAY HI AND GET TO KNOW EACHOTHERS SCENT THEY REMEMBER THE SCENT AND THATS HOW THEY REMEMBER WHOS THERE BUDDY AND WHOS NOT.
