The labels that others put on you...or the labels they put on themselves? I've seen alot of comments on here like 'Well a true "blabla" would never do that' or 'their not a real ****'. Then I read one today, someone got really upset because someone else claimed to be a Christian/Pagan!!
Now personally, I don't like being called a 'Satan Worshiper' but it really doesn't bother me if someone wants to label themselves as a cross religion.
So what upsets you more, a person who uses the same label with different beliefs, or the label someone else put on you because of your beliefs?

The label someone else puts on me. They don't know me from Adam, but they have the gall to form an opinion about me before getting to know me. Those are the kinds of people who will never open their minds. Those kinds of people should be pitied.

I find both kind of silly. But people put labels on themselves because they are trying to figure out where they fit in, and how to define themselves. I'm okay with that. And many people have different views, feelings and ideas about different labels, so I figure how they want to label themselves is up to them and it doesn't affect anyone else. But when others label me, or other people it bothers me, because usually they don't know enough about a person to do that, and many times they do it derogitorrily (and I know I just spelled that word wrong), as if the label is a dirty word. That bothers me. But I generally don't take other people's words personally, because I know where I stand with myself and don't really care what others think/say.

Labels that other people put on me upsets me. It makes me feel like I am being judged. No one on this earth should judge another living soul. The ultimate judge is God. I am a Christian and I am bashed into the teeth because of my belief in God. I do however turn the other cheek and sometimes, it is very hard to do. But I forgive those who curse me, for Jesus had forgiven those who cursed Him when He was on the earth and now.

What about you? How do you deal with labels? Which upsets you more?

Probably someone who misappropriates an existing label, because it causes confusion and can have a negative impact on others.

For example, someone who goes out and claims to be "Wiccan" and thinks she's so cool because now she can "curse people who are mean to her" damages the perception of Wicca overall. Those of us who know Wicca know that she's not Wiccan, but the general public doesn't, and all it does is reinforces their misconceptions and stereotypes about Wicca being "evil".

If someone wants to label me a "Satan worshipper" I can tell them that I'm not and try to educate them. Some will learn. Some will not.

Very interesting question - thanks!!

The labels people put on me because what they say about you or call you is the same way society is going to see you.

Labels are used often by people to conceal the fact that they don't know what they're talking about, but misusing them proves it! All words are "labels" in a way, but they should be useful and positive and, above all, specific and accurate. Have you heard of the old Granny who baked mincemeat and another kind of pie every day, and helpfully labeled each pie with a "T". She explained that the on pie was labeled "T" meaning "'Tis mincemeat'. and the other pie was labeled with a "T" to let people know " 'Tain't mincemeat"!

I get upset more about people who say they are Christian and use foul language in the same sentence! Also when they try to stand up for Christianity in a hateful or smart alick tone. It doesn't help. It is actually the work of false believers who want to confuse and hurt God or the new Christians who haven't learned enough to know how to react in a situation when their belief is challenged.

The Bible tells us to "judge not lest ye be judged". So when we put labels on others then we are judging. That is what is so hard about labels. When people put labels on us they are judging us. That is negative and nobody likes that.

Labels don't upset me. I don't label people, but if they feel the need to label me I don't really care. I know who I am, so screw your opinion.

Label me as you will. Just don't get offended if I throw a label right back at ya.
