like the big apple in NY.

In my understanding "the Big Apple" refers to the entire city of New York, and not just one block.

I don't know, I have never heard of that befor. Maybe it's because they used to have apple stands on every street coner, like during the Depression.

Oddly enough, city blocks in spanish are called "manzanas" which is also apples. que raro! jaja! That is very strange, and interesting. But, i dont know.
