I know the laws on this are different depending on the state you live in. I'm just curious what one would do in this situation.

I took a Law class and my teacher said '',say the person is coming in the window if he is only half way in you cant shoot him until he is fully inside ''so most of my class mates said drag him in the rest of the way and take care of him.lol but if he has robbed you and running out the door and you shoot him in the back you will be the one going to jail.

Most likely, as a shotgun at short-range is a difficult weapon to only wound with!

Colorado has a "make my day" law. To think that you could wound someone, or control them somehow is naive - and would most likely get you and/or your family killed. Do what needs to be done and then call the police and EMS (or call at same time if you can). But you are duty-bound to protect yourself and your family! However, if you have a safe-room where you and your family can get to before dealing with the intruder - then that is the best choice. Material things can be replaced. If you do shoot an intruder, then you also will have to deal with the legal system and also with yourself.

Yes but sadly even if my state says it is justified; it forbids be to cut the bugler's head off or burn his body.

it would be nice if all states allowed a homeowner to kill a bugler with extreme prejudice and forbid any criminal and civil lawsuit to be filled against the homeowner.

FYI:
It is pathetic to hear that a CRIMINAL is allowed to sue a homeowner for injuries that the CRIMINAL sustained while IN THE ACT of COMMITTING a CRIME inside the homeowners home.

The federal government should pass a law protecting homeowners from stupid lawsuits like this.

possibly in the near future, our homes will be able to kill intruders for us, or at least nuetralize them, untill the police arrive to haul them off. the home could be capable of percieving a freind or foe, (you could program in a freinds list) , and act accordingly, and of course be able to alert the police, also, all without even waking you from your restfull sleep! It's not too far off!
After the criminals have been arrested and tried, they should be executed live on t.v. on Saturday nights, (Just cause there's never anything really good on saturday!) The next step in reality television! I'm sure crime would go down if criminals knew what was in store for them>

If someone breaks into your home you have the right to assume that he means you harm and therefore may use whatever force is necessary to prevent him from harming you, this includes lethal force. never reload once the intruder is down. and in Most states they will investigate at least briefly to make sure that you did not lure someone into your home in order to Murder them. but whether or not anyone would be capable of using deadly force noone can be 100% certain until the time comes to do so. I feel that if I were threatened I would have the will to defend myself, but I hope I never have to find out.

A lot depends on the situation.

Only if there is clear evidence that you or your family are in life-threatening danger, otherwise you are just supposed to incapacitate them if you can.
All that being said though, you probably won't find too many judge's that will be sympathetic to a dead thief that can't even defend themselves in court.
I would personally hack their arms of with my machete, and worry about the consequences later, after my lawyer arrived on the scene.

Yes! If someone were breaking into my home and were causing a threat to my son, yes I would definitely kill them. I would lose my life or go to jail just to save his.

I believe if the said person is inside your home and poses a threat to you or your family then yes, you can kill said person in self defense.

However, you need to kill said person BEFORE he reaches your front lawn, after this you have no grounds. It would be considered homicide.

If I felt my life or those in the house were in danger; without hesitation I would end the burglars life. People things like this in their minds when they choose to invade another's domain.
