It depends on what you're trying to do. All you're doing by taking whey protein, obviously, is dumping more protein into your body which will eaither be broken down and stored as fat, or used for building muscles or other necessary functions.

If you are trying to gain weight OR you don't eat properly, I would advise taking whey protein, otherwise, it may be counterproductive.

Whey is a low fat, high protein suppliment. For those attempting to build muscle it is a useful tool for providing the body the building blocks it needs. Back in the old days they had to use meat as the primary protein source which added too much fat to their diet.
