no not really. even though no one wears rank, the drill sgt know who's who. but there will be e-4 there who they will put in charge. right now you need to think about to you want to blend in and not stand out and make it by with out the drill sgt knowing your name or do you want to push yourself and volenteer for stuff that could either make you or break you. If you go to Jackson basic training will be a joke anyways, relax'n jackson

I went in as a E-2 and there was no difference from one person to another. We had E-4's and we had E-1's and we never knew it until we graduated and saw it on eachothers Class A uniform. Our PG (Platoon Guide) was an E-1. You will make more money though during those 9 weeks as an E-2. No huge advantages/disadvantages though, besides money. Your promotions to E-4 are all timed promotions anyways unless you get specially selected. Going in as E-1 you will make E-2 at 6 months TIS (time in service), E-3 at 12 months TIS and 6 months TIG (time in grade), and E-4 at 24 months TIS and 12 months TIG. Going in as an E-2 you still have to wait for 12 months TIS to get E-3 even though you came in as E-2, except special cases. I made E-4 at 18 months TIS and 6 months TIG. One of those special cases.

More than likely you will be made squad leader but other than that I can't recall any real benefits. Your rank will matter once you've been through basic and you start learning your trade. Your pay will be a little more, also.
It's been a long time since I was in the Army (1982) so things may have changed a great deal.

I'm not sure this is still done in today's Army Basic, but having been promoted to E2 could get you a temporary promotion, with no increase of pay, of an acting buck sergeant (E5).
You would then be assigned the squad leader's position in the platoon until your graduation, provided your promotion to E2 was earned because of your knowledge, in say, ROTC.

Make sure you sign a contract before you go in. The contract will assure that you get the position you ask for. The services is tricky very.. Things are not what they seems. Make sure u you understand the bonuses and all those before you go in. Recruiter can tell you all you want to here but it is a different story when you get there , It is a good opportunity but be smart about it. Know the cards to play. Make sure you know the ropes before you sign up. Good luck

You do not wear any signs of rank, although I have seen exceptions for prior service individuals who served in military action and are comeing back to boot camp because it has been longer than 10 years.
Trust me you don't want added attention during boot camp so don't even bring it up. You will get paid more which is all that matters.

You would be looked as a prospective leader, but the biggest thing is you would get higher pay, and a faster promotion to E-3. If you can get the promotion then get it...more rank equals more pay equals more privileges in the long run...
Good luck to you and thanks for serving our country!!!

you will be looked at as a private either way. i went into basic as an e-2 and was not treated any different than an e-1 or an e-3. don't stress it.

you will just get more money. You might get to be a squad leader or platoon guide. but that will be determined by your leadership skills and not your rank. Everyone will be treated equally as bad, trust me I went in as an E-3.
