Here's a question for all of you religious people out there, especially fanatical ones: If God is all powerful and omnipotent, could he create a rock so big and so heavy that he himself could not lift it?

Just as I expected, many of you were so busy defending you "faith" that you missed the entire point of the question.

Assuming God is a physical entity, assuming that he is all powerful, assuming lift has some significance in a universal perspective (assuming God is a universal being and doesn't just live on earth with gravity). My point being that to question anything about the reality of God in the way that you are doing is absurd. God is about a feeling, reflect on your own life, the life of those around you, the world and the universe long and hard for a few years. If you have already done this than I can't figure out why your asking such a meaningless question.

The man who invented crane cannot lift the weight the lift raise. The Creation is through Wisdom. I am not saying God cannot lift the rocks. But I mean to say that your question is baseless. All visible things are formed into from invisible particles. The ability to command these invisible particles to form into visible object or living being is the Creation.

Is God Real?
What is real and what is not real?
Real is indestructible. All other things are not real but just a vanity. It stays for a time and will have to vanish.

Can God almighty create a thing which he cannot destroy?

God cannot do anything and everything. There are so many things that God almighty cannot do.

Can God be born? One of the characteristics of God is that He is not born. If we say that God almighty was born, then there was a time when He didn't exist. And if there was a time when He didn't exist, For Him to come into existence, somebody has to make Him exist. So there is somebody else who is really God not Him. If we say that God almighty cannot be born, we are also saying that The Creator cannot become His creation. Because creation means what is in need of a Creator. To you be a creature, means that there has to be someone who create you. So if God became His creation, that means He is now in need of a creator. THIS IS IMPOSSIBILITY AND ABSURDITY!

Can God create a stone which is too heavy for Him to lift?
God almighty cannot be unjust. The moment when God become unjust, he ceases to be God. Because it's one of quality of God almighty that he is JUST.

The Qur’an says:
"Allah is never unjust In the least degree." [Al-Qur’an 4:40]

God cannot be cruel.

God almighty cannot throw me out of his domain. He can obliterate me. He can kill me. He can vanish me. But he cannot throw me out of his domain. WHERE WILL HE THROW ME? Everything belongs to him.

God cannot create a tall-short man. Yes he can make a tall man short. But no longer will he remains tall. But you cant have a tall-short man. You can have a medium man, who is neither tall nor short. But you cant have a man who is tall and short at the same time.

nowhere does the Quran says that God can do everything, Quran says in several places that God has the power over all things. There is world of a difference between "Allah can do everything and Allah have the power over everything"
Allah says in holy Quran (85:16)
"He does what He intends (or wills)"

Whatever he intends he can do. But God does only Godly things. He does not do Ungodly things.

When we muslims say "God almighty can do all things", we are talking about all things that are consistent in Him being God. Not included the absurdity, impossibility and the things which make "God" no longer "God".

ISLAM HAS LOGICAL ANSWER FOR THIS QUESTION

EDIT >>>>>> ==============================...

"His command when He desires a thing is just to say to it, “Be!” and it is." (Qur’an, 36: 82)

There's nothing greater or more powerful than God therefore nothing He would create would be on His Level.
There are things that God cannot do , He cannot lie.
If you set up a chess game where the one is in check with no way out & then said God its your turn He couldn't win the game because God doesn't cheat!
Your question is really a silly question.

the problem is that the concept of god is incorrect. by humanizing The Creator you open doors for questions like this. the misconceptions that have been spread by so-called experts at philosophy have poisoned the minds of millions by deifying a concept, a word and a statute of righteousness. The true concept of a Creative Source is really a plural concept so to talk about GOD is to talk about the force of GOD or GODS. With that in mind, the HE is out and THEY is what would be more appropriate. If GOD has a gender, that in itself is a limitation.

To answer that question, ask yourself this: "how do you prove anything is real?"

If you are religious, then most likely it will come down to just "faith." If you are not religious, then is will most likely come down to standards that you have adopted for yourself.

My take is this - I don't believe anyone else's proof but my own! When my own standards are met, then I am able to decide whether something is real or it is not. However, there is no absolute in this position, as it must be re-examined continuously as new evidence (either way) presents itself.

My thoughts,
Mike

How many times will somebody repeat this question? Don't you have an original thought of your own? Oops! Sorry. I forgot there for a minute that monkeys only imitate what humans can do.

No because the omnipotent paradox that you have used is just one way of showing the fallacy of the concept of god.

A better question is: if god knows everything he will ever do then can he ever really change his mind? Can he ever be spontaneous? And if he can't change his mind, does he have free will?
