I'm serious. This is not a lame joke. This is not a joke at all.

The only answers that I have for you are in the Bible ... laugh if you want... but everything that is written in the Bible thus far has come to pass... and will continue to do so... so my answer is yes I believe that it is possible that sometime in the future that America could become a police/military state but if/when it does I believe that they( the army and police) will not have a problem with killing the innocent fellow Americans ... and I'll tell you why... b/c in the Bible it talks about how that after the rapture of the "bride of Christ" ... how those who make it to heaven ... after judgment (etc.). The devil himself will be let loose to reign for a thousand years and if we can identify the kind of pure evil that is being suppressed in our society then what makes people think that after the Lord has raptured his spirit from this world that people will even think twice before killing one another or committing other violent crimes ... well.. I know that I have just opened another can of worms ... but hopefully I have been able to answer your question a little bit... :) !!! If you wanna talk about this a little more feel free to contact me at ashleycs87@yahoo.com !!! God Bless!!! :)

Well, this can't be answered without asking under what conditions would America become a Police State (that is, a nation where-in civil liberties take a backseat to national security). That's up to you.

Now, in a Police State, the Army and/or Police are able to arrest and hold without trial an individual. However, killing the individual is not considered accurate.

On the other hand, it there were a coup, or a major biological outbreak, or something else which would be a sudden national outbreak, different laws would be in place such that "doing nothing wrong" is really not possible. And in that case, it is quite possible that innocent people would die. But that really is part of any war - that innocent people die.

This really is something to go find a good historical movie on the subject. In particular "Missing" (starring Jack Lemmon) is considered a classic. (South American coup occurs and the father of the missing American flies down to try to save him and is faced with a powerless embasy, and a unhelpfull military regime more interested in consolidating power than finding an American tourist).

I am afraid that day will come. America will be destroyed from the inside. It is happening now, with the arrival of thousands of illegal immigrants crossing the border each day. Eventually, these people will put onw of their own in power, because they will outnumber us, and vote their own into office. Then, soon after, they will initiate martial law, and have the military and the police go door to door, and seize Bibles from everyone. Those who do not turn over a Bible will be killed. Those who have guns will also be killed.

A coming depression will take the power away from the rich, and at that time, militants, who are here secretly, will take over. It may be the Muslems who will do this, and will be manipulated through illegal immigamts from Mexico and South America. Canada will not be safe either.

At that point it won't matter because I will be in Canada...calm down, it just seems like things are getting out of control because the republicans run all three branches of government and control media outlets like FOX. It is this 24/7 instant crisis media world we live in. America can't become a police state because the army and police won't just up and start killing citizens. It really and truly can't happen.
Just get out there and vote if you are old enough, and if you are not, you can still volunteer. You can do your part. Let your voice be heard. You are not alone and you are not powerless.

No, they will not have a problem with it. In times of crisis, the de facto standing orders are already to protect private property, even at the expense of human life.

also, despite the opinion of any of the other doofs that have replied to your question, i defy anyone to explain how the U.S. is not ALREADY a police state. we have far more police than any other country on earth : FBI, CIA, BATF, State Police, Federal Marshals, County Sheriffs, City Police, Village Police, Mall Police, Transit Police, Housing Police, Highway Patrol, Park Police, Secret Service, Town Police, Private Security, National Guard, and many more, not to mention four branches of the armed forces, which the modern executive branch has no demonstrable qualms about using domestically. Your phones are tapped, and your internet activities are monitored. Thanks to your cell phone, the various polices already know where you are 24 hours a day (look into it, this has been implemented) and the Patriot Act has expanded police powers so that warrants are not required in many circumstances. Even your library habits are fair game.

Time to wake up, smell the coffee.

No. If we learned anything in the past six years it's that Bush and his corporate owners not only don't hesitate to torture and kill anyone who happens to be in their way, they seem to get off on it. And their spying on ordinary citizens shows that a police state is what they have had in mind.
But I really don't think the American people would go along with it. Not because they have a lot of sense- they don't seem to- but because we all have been lucky to have lived in a country that was built on the idea of freedom and the rights that go along with it. Many people who have supported their wars are already checking out on the madness. Hard to say what would happen if they really pull out all the stops.

This has actually popped into my head before. For some reason, I envision something like Judge Dredd coming to pass in the next 20 years actually. You know, cops being Judge,Jury, and Executioner all in one. However, i think the problems at that point will be more internal than external, nation wise, so the use of force on civilians would be authorized. At that point, perhaps a couple just people will die.

As society falls apart there is more and more excuse for a police state. There will be No problem because people are brainwashed easily. Look at the teen styles today-- promoted on teen TV, owned by adults , who have no problem sucking the money from the teen wallets.

America is a soveriegn state, it has an army, and police...what part about police state don't you understand? You asked in the Religous & Spirituality category, so I'll answer in kind; David Koresh and his followers were burned alive...what did they do wrong? I don't like cults any more than the next guy...but what did they do wrong?

Very possible. We are throwing away rights to liberty like they are not important at all. Just as we think nothing when we watch a movie with guns blazing and knocking down everything in sight, we're going to be numb when we watch the police operate like a Chinese army.
