They are materialistic AND Dumb.

Clever girls will mask their materialistic values by: instead of asking if you have a high-paying job, they will ask if you are goal-oriented.

At least find a clever materialistic girl, instead of a dumb materialistic girl.

Women want security to even consider a serious relationship, If you're not financially stable and can't support yourself, how the hell are you supposed to support them and possibly children if you get involved - its like a prerequisite to any serious relationship - they are sizing you up before there is even a possibility that there may be more between you - yes, in short they are materialistic but then wanting a man who is financially secure and not a 'loser', is a sensible sort of materialism I guess -

Also they could just be making conversation and looking for stuff you may interested in talking about, showing an interest or just seeing what you two have in common - you seem a bit insecure about the job - no one is trying to put you down man, just be cool - Even if a girl did get with you, she'd be pushing you to get a job and secure both your futures and she wouldn't stick around to go down with a man who's on a sinking ship, why should they? - that's just the way it is.

They Don't want a man who has no experience with women, lives at home in his parents basement and doesn't have a job or a car by the time he is 30 - serious turn off dude - so answer the question like you would answer any other.

As far as asking about a job....they want to be taken care of.

I have a job and I work my a s s off. I'd like the man I meet to be just as hard working. I find it a huge turn on when a guy has a succesful job. I'm not materialistic, as a matter of fact I don't like it when the man pays for my dinner/movie whatever. But it's nice because i've dated some a s s holes who had no job and treated me like crap and expected me to pay for everything.

Women all want the same thing, security. If you have a nice job and a nice house, then you will win in the end. Granted the guy with the Harley might get her in the sack, but you'll get her in the end. Women want a man that will be a good husband as well as father. I was raised by women, 9 to be exact. well i dont think just for ask age, sex, and location and then she asked u what kind of job do u have , i dont think that she is materialistic, cause im not materialistic and i always ask about sex, age, and location (asl) cause i wanna know who im talking with, and well if i ask for the job its because i wanna know what he or she does in this life for a living, and its not because im materialistic, in my case its because i wanna know a lil more about the other person im talking with....so dont think that all girls that ask that its because we are materialistics...im not and i ask ASL and many more things

Some...may be, but more likely they want to know if you apply yourself to something serious. When I met my husband I was impressed that he was a school teacher and he had his masters degree. Not because he makes a very good paycheck (which he really doesn't), but because he put forth a concentrated effort to accomplish something. Showing he endured and tried hard. Thats the kind of guy I wanted to be with. Not just some joe schmo who blew everything off getting high or drunk every other weekend.

To those that said ALL women are materialistic -- stop over-generalizing, it's not true. Some of us have supported the men we love.

It is commonly used as a conversation starter to ask about someone's job. Are they asking about your salary or credit score? If so, they are officially gold-diggers.

Maybe not. Sometimes girls are interested in you and will ask questions. If they ask you what kind of car you drive or how much you make then they are most likely materialistic.
