Personally, I'm atheist, but if you are looking at this from a Christian perspective, I think the following is a good answer.

According to most philosophies, or to the one's that make the most sense, God is all knowing and all powerful. (omniscient, omnipresent...ect.) Even though He has all of that, he CHOOSE to give us a personal will. With the will that he gave us (us being Adam and Eve representing the human race) the command to stay away from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. That is the point in time where sin entered the world and the devil gained some control of the human race. That is why God can't destroy the devil until Jesus comes back again. When we sinned, we gave the devil power over us that God cannot take away until the end of sin in the world. To make that a little bit simpler, God gave us the power of choice which we gave to the devil. Therefore God can't take that away. Since the devil controls the human race, God can't destroy him until he gets his power back. Which will be when Jesus comes back, as stated above.

I hope that's not too hard to comprehend.

Again, the above stated are not what I believe and are from a Christian perspective.

That's true, why would our almighty loving God allow such a being to roam this earth to bring many of his beloved children to the depths of a burning Hell, in which we will receive the most excruciating and unimaginable pain?
Simple:
Yes, there is a God, but we created the concept of the Devil. We, as people, also create the evil in the world, by our actions, corruption, and godlessness. We blame those evils as work of the Devil, because we as a society can't put the blame on ourselves, even though that is who is at fault. I suppose God could get rid of evil, but that would wipe out much, if not all, of man kind, because every human has some form of evil thought, regardless if he acts on it or not, because...well, we're human, not robots!

God never takes away the gifts He gives.
God gave the angels existence, life, intelligence etc.
Some of the Angels rebelled, using these very gifts against Him.
Everything an Angel does he does with his full power and will
because he has all the knowledge needed to make his choice.
These angles now called devils now have what they wanted, to serve only themselves forever separated from God ,and God gives them what they chose.
Spirits can sin in two ways: pride and envy
Out of envy the devils temp and attack men
God permits this to a limited degree to test man, that he may have greater merit- the story in the book of Job in the Bible is an excellent Example of this.

Well God has to prove to his angels that the devil was wrong and cant touch anything on earth until he wins the bet between God and Lucifer. Personally I think they should have arm wrestled instead of all this bull$hit. And for those that don't believe in God good for you theirs a loophole that wins you a free ticket to God apparently ignorance is bliss and if you don't know the word of God you win a second chance. Just for the record the A$$ wipe that wakes me after death Will see Armageddon.

Well,

1. God does not exist
2. Devils do not exist. Evil doesn't come from devils it comes from us, humans. Christians just needed someone to blame for their mistakes.
3. If "god" rids the world of everything bad and evil...well THAT would be hell. There will not be newspapers or TV (except educational children's shows) or any other form of entertainment....and that would definitely suck..

God needs the devil. Sad to say. But Balance of power is key to existence. There is no light without darkness, there is no love without hate, there is no hope without dispair, there is no yin without yang, there is no God without Satan. Ideologically Satan and God are concepts of the human conciousness that have been developed to explain the nature of "cause and will." Some people believe them to be actual spirits, and some do not. Either way, the point is one could not exist without the other. Even in the Bible, before the world was created it states that the Spirits (i.e. God) drew within themselves to create the Heavens.

There is no devil, literally speaking. Each human being has positive and negative qualities which are clouding the real Divinity within. If the veil of negativity has peaked, man becomes devil-like. if it is clear and transparent, the mind of man reflects the wonderful divinity within. Thus the question becomes invalid.

i.e. There is no Devil in the first place only good and bad qualities which are muddying the perfect Divinity within man as dark clouds obscure the clear blue sky without affecting it.

ok, if God is all powerful why would he not be able to defeat a devil? Point is God is all powerful and there is NO devil to defeat! Look the devil does not exist, he is an entity made up by men.
