Everyone wants the world to revolve around them these days-they want the VIP treatment. Why do you think there is myspace and facebook? so people can see your business and see how cooler you are than them and post your whole life onto the Internet so everyone can take a peek and be in awe about how much of good times you have and the friends that you're with and ****. Even TV-but, it's TV-everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame. PATHETIC. Everyone these days just want people to think "they have it better" and "wow-they are so special", "I want their life" blah blah blah.

I agree that many Americans are self-centered these days, but unfortunately I don't think this is a problem that only Americans suffer from. I think there are self-centered people all over the world.

I don't see the evolution of the "self" as necessarily all a bad thing. That's ultimately what you are left with after all. Part of the stages of self-actualization is the pre-occupation with self. I agree that in a shallow-physical way it's not a good trend, but as a person moves higher on the self-development scale, their appreciation for the rest of the world grows. The materialistic attitudes and preoccupation with things is not a good thing, but self-development overall, I think is.

Well, it depends on the channel you're watching. I think it's 50/50, yes there are self centered people, but there are still those good wholesome people that care about others.

Magazines and shows are all about pampering self to feel good about yourself, even doing deeds. There are no selfless deeds because they're mostly selfish if you're just doing it to feel better about yourself. I don't know if the USA is alone in this kind or not. But that's how it is. Religious or not.

people are so ego-centric. everyone seems to feel entitled to put themselves and their issues before the greater good. good manners, common decency and respect are becoming past history. the romans did this in their society. they didn't last much longer after that and the end of their society was horrifying. its sad. we are becoming monsters.
