love is supposed to be universal and regardless of how much you earn

When people are looking for a potential mate they are looking for someone who shows ambition and drive for success. You want someone who wants/has the same things you want/have. If a person is successful in a career they are more likely to be successful in a relationship as well. A person who makes good $$$ has, more than likely, been threw school or has been with a company for some time. This shows commitment.

Because people usually feel more comfortable in their own wage bracket. If you earn a lot in one year, you probably won't like being with a girl that makes minimum wage. She might expect you to pay for everything and buy her lots of stuff. (It's a two way street, but since you're a guy...) And how comfortable would you feel if you hooked up with a woman that makes twice what you do, then couldn't afford the bill at the fancy restaurant that she wanted to go to? Asking her to pay her share is OK for some, but others will get real mad real fast. Some people are like you and won't care about money, but there are plenty of others that do. I wouldn't want to date a guy that still flips burgers at 30, but the guy that owns a Fortune 500 company may not want to date me either. Get the point?

I believe that asking about your earnings is optional. Love can be universal, but if you don't make enough to sustain your lifestyle, it can place a strain on love. As for the sites, I'd really would not care, but knowing a person's occupation, I can guess what he would earn.

I agree about what love is 'supposed' to be. There are plenty of superficial people out there though. Infact, I'd say more of them than us. So the amount of money someone makes is something that a good majority of people take into serious account when trying to find someone to love. It's sad. It's true.

People are shallow, and I don't blame them for not wanting to hook up with fat joe who lives with mommy and daddy. You have a job right? Something other than Taco Bell? Then what are you worried about?

I think it is because "some" people are superficial and want to know if the person they are meeting is going to be able to provide for them.
