It contains tryptophan (same stuff in turkey---why you basically go into a food coma after Thanksgiving dinner) and the warmth of it raises the body temperature enough to trigger the slowdown response your body gets on a warm day (think: lazy days of summer).

Milk has certain enzymes that aid in sleep. If you warm it up then it's suppose to relax you at the same time.

Some people, not all, respond favorably because of the amino acid tryptophan in it but it is not a cure for insomnia or anything.

warm milk tastes like $hit, if you don't add chocolate sugar on it, and it doesn't really make me sleepy, i just get a bad case of montezuma's ravenge in the dead of night
