Your dog is so lucky that you want to feed him the very best.
I have been breeding purebred dogs for the past 38 years.
Two years ago, I began feeding Canidae. I have tried nearly all the major premium brands of kibble, but since feeding Canidae, I would never want to feed anything else.
My old dogs became younger, my pups grew better than ever, and the in between are robust with good health. My dog's teeth don't need cleaned, and they have Sweet breath.
Other great kibbles are Innova, Wysong, Solid Gold, Wellness.
You will find these kibbles at your local pet supply, but never at the Grocer's or Dept store.

Premium dog food costs more per bag, but less per month, as the dogs eat less, and waste(poop) less. It is a huge savings in veterinary care, as they are so much healtheir, especially as they age.

to be realistic just start the puppy on a good natural kibble that is in the dog specialty store. Do not go with the popular highly promoted ones where the first ingrediant is corn. I do make my own dog food and my dog is supper healthy for his bred and age. I did this because like many small dogs he has anal gland issues where he was scooting. The vet told me it would cost me $50/month to have my dog come in to get his glands squeezed. Not only painful for the dog, but too expensive! I tried all kinds of different food with bulk but it was outrageously priced and hard to keep. So I make him whatever is on the menu, like chicken and rice with carrot, or beef with potato, or scrambled eggs. Because the meat is cooked any parasites are killed, and dogs are carivores. It is however extra work and is more expensive than kibble. On the otherhand, I have never had to return to the vet for pricey and painful treatments, and my dog is happy and healthy.

Recently I switched over to Science Diet small bites. My Dachshund mix loves it. Since he's a small dog, a five pound bag goes a long way. Even though it is pricier, it is "concentrated" so you actually give a smaller amount so you aren't really spending that much more.

for kibble, get a food with a Protein as the first ingredient (chicken, meat, lamb, fish). Ideally, depending who you speak to, a raw diet is the best for dogs. Next would be a tie between kibble and homemade food as long as the homemade food follows the nutrients needed for dogs NOT humans.

If your dog is currently eating a certain dog food and it's ok with it(has appetite, energy etc.)It's better not to change unless it has not been change for a long period.
