I am pretty sure that ANY tooth can also cause an earache. You might also have an infection in there leftover from the root canal.
I think you should get a second opinion from another dentist.

I think you would know better than your dentist which tooth is hurting you, I've never heard of the bottom being most likely. Your dentist may be a quack. I do know that it is easier for a dentist to pull bottom teeth. I had an abscessed tooth with nothing wrong with the tooth itself, I grind my teeth, and it got loose and became irritated. Nobody would pull it. I ended up going to a periodontist, who pulled it, and have had no problem since.

I don't think you can make a blanket statement that top teeth don't cause your ears to hurt. At least that has not been my experience. It's true that pain from bottom molars is rather known for shooting up to your ears and upper teeth hurt your sinus or your eyes, but never say never. Having said that, I would also say that it would be extremely unusual for an upper bicuspid to transmit pain to your ear. It is entirely possible that this in only one problem and you may have another problem in another tooth.

all the nerves in your face are connected, so unfortunately yes it can cause pain and a burning sensation in your ears..and the glands under your jaw bone to hurt, and just plain discomfort in your face no matter where the tooth is. I had the same problem recently, the pain in my ears was terrible, till i finally got a root canal, and the pain is gone. the tooth is the 4th over on the top. Good luck!
