My grandma got a dell laptop about 8-10 months. Just recently, when you press certain buttons, they type weird stuff. For instance, when you type p, it types 'ippi'. This doesnt happen on every single button, but it happens on a lot of them. What do you think went wrong and what do you suggest she do? Thank You!

At 8-10 months you should still be in warranty. Contact Dell and describe the problem. IT sounds like the keyboard went bad. They should be able to send out a replacement keyboard. You can also have them send out a tech to replace it if you don't think you are comfortable doing that. It is a fairly easy process and they include the step by step instructions.

It is either the keyboard is short circuit, or the laptop infected with virus.

To verify is it because of the keyboard problem, you try connect a desktop keyboard to the notebook, and use it to type, instead of the notebook keyboard.

If it is function correctly, then you can be sure to report this to Dell, and ask for a repair (should be free, cause still within 1 year warantee)

If it is not, then likely is virus/worms in your laptop.

Try an external keyboard. If the problem goes away, the laptop's keyboard is bad. Contact Dell for warranty support. If the problem still exists, the driver is corrupt. Reinstall the keyboard driver.

Sounds like software problems. Try contacting dell or do a system restore on the laptop.

Sounds like the keyboard language has been changed. Check in the task bar for an icon with letters in it. Click on it and this should allow you to return it to english. If this dos not work then you may have to take it in and have it checked........Good luck

It sounds like the keyboard or the keyboard driver is bad. Try a different keyboard first. If that doesn't work, reinstall the driver.
