"is better"? Well, there's lots of religion in the world right now, so ...
"would be better"? I dunno, since religion has been a part of the human experience for quite some time.
I think that the world would be better without religious tensions, if everyone could just accept that other folks may not believe what they believe.
Do I think that is remotely possible? NOPE.

Well, sometimes we may think that, with all the wars going on and stuff. But, it's those people who decide to fight over religion, which isn't terribly smart. I think everybody should believe in something, and in the long run, I don't think the world would be better without religion.

No. It would be a whole lot WORSE without religion.
The world can be pretty bad as it is. How much worse would it be without a grounded faith in God?
Some people would answer "yes" to your question -- but these people have ulterior motives for wanting religion out of the way.
They don't really think that the world would be better without religion -- that's just their excuse.
They really think that THEY would be better off without religion -- and they need to cast religion in a bad light to validate that opinion, and to feel better about their lifestyles.
Religion teaches these people things that they just don't want to hear. Hence their psychological need to defame and discredit it.

Yes, in many ways. Religion has never stopped any determined person from doing what is morally wrong. Moreover, more bad things have been done in the name of religion. And religion just becomes another point of difference between people, resulting in men killing each other over differences.

Without religion the fanatics will find another excuse to fight and invade countries.
On the other hand, no religion could mean one faith in God and Jesus Christ. Then we can all live in love and harmony.
Unfortunately, men are corruptable, greedy and selfish so no matter what we do to we will never reach a state of peace and harmony.

I think that in essence, a world without religion is good, but people need religion to sustain themselves into thinking that there is good sometime after life. Without religion people would be constantly committing suicide when bad things would happen, but with religion people think that suicide is bad so they don't do it to "tarnish their divine record."

no, without religion there would be no basis for society, there would be nothing wrong with killing people, so if you think religion is the cause of world problems, just remember what it would be like without it. (all religions exept the one true religion where started by satan)

I think we'd all be alot better off with no organized or sectarian religions around. Just like John Lennon sang in "Imagine." True "religion" exists in the heart of all living beings, the unadulterated and uninterpreted pure knowledge of ourselves and of our relationship with God, and with this material world, why we're here, and how we can liberate ourselves from suffering and from death.
