There are many gods, as in the beings that created this world. In no way, shape, or form could one god create the whole world. (He had some help, Christians. Admit it.)
These gods are not bound by their religions, but only certain religions recognize each; the only exception to this rule are the shared gods of Buddhism and Shinto.
The gods can create things. Each one gave its hand in creating a few species.
The gods are related somehow. This explains the various moral similarities. However, each god has had its' influence in the religion, which explains the differences.
There is no one correct "god" of gods.
The path you choose will help to lead you towards your gods' will and your gods' desire for your future. NO ONE can make this decision for you. It's not something you can simply inherit, either. You must make this decision alone. By yourself. And ultimately for yourself.

At least, that's what I believe.

V And of course, there have tobe those who influence you. Don't listen to them until you've decided which path you want for yourselves. Do NOT let their talk of hellfire, posession, and various forms of "punishment" scare you, for only you decide, in the end, where you will go.

There's only one God, which is viewed in many different ways, and has many different names. All is one. I believe in God, but I'm not a member of any religion. So, yes, God is independent of religion.

There is one TRUE God. That God has made the earth, the sky and the seas before he made us. There are false gods, but they made nothing for us. Many religions worship God, but envision Him differently. That is the same God, but with no eyewitness, could be described differently in different circles.

We know not to worship a false God, though. The God who made all the earth is the same God for us all, He loves us and we should love and worship Him.

Exodus 20
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Depends on the perspective of the person.

That said, I personally think there is one god and that all the names of gods, etc are just the multitude of names for the one god and all the different religions are just merely different perspectives on the same god. As a Hindu, that's what I believe.

Everyone says there is only one god and that god is their god. I do not believe in god so I can see that there are millions of gods.

It is the believers that are blind and do not understand they do not believe in the same god. Some gods say it is ok to have as many wifes as you can afford to support. Some gods say it is not allowed to kill anything. Some gods say when you die if you take as many with you as you can you get 70 virgins. Some gods say it is a sin to have sex un married. Some say it is only bad if you are married and you have sex with someone other then the person you are married to. Some gods say it is ok to smoke pot and drink beer and wine. Some gods say it is a sin.

Which god is yours?

We are told not to have any gods before God the Heavenly Father...

Jesus told his Deciples... "ye are gods"...

so... probably a LOT of gods exist... but none greater than God the Heavenly Father.

There are millions. There's a god of flowers and a god of deer and a god of cake, and there's a god of excrement-not a guy I'd like to meet. And my favorite god- the god of puppies.
