Autism is not a bad thing, and you should not feel bad about asking about it. I had no idea what it was either till my 3 yr. old son was diagnosed with it. At first i was scared, and had no idea what to exspect. some were telling me it was like a retardation, others would say a handicap, all was bad information. There are different degrees in being autistic. My son they said is considered this because he uses parts of his brain that most people do not. Just to explain to him, my son can not talk clearly, his attention spand is next to none, he has a temper, he will bang his head on a wall when he is angry, carry on fits, and more, to extreams. BUT, at three, he can also put together a 60 pc. puzzle, ride a bike, rollar blade, swim with no life jacket or other life saving device, knows his alphabet, numbers past 20, and on and on. He zones out allot, and he will talk to himself, and refers to himself as a third person contantly. like instead of saying, I would like a cookie, he will say his name, wants a cookie. You can't always tell my looking at a person if they have this, sometimes it is very obvious, and other times, like in my sons case, you have to wait till it "rears it's ugly head", he has it all the time of course but it is more aparent at times then at others. There are lots of information on it on the web. Personally I did not find this helpful with my strugle to understand it at all. No, there is cure that I know of. But like I said, don't feel sorry for these people/kids, they are all special. Like someone born with a deformity, or no sight, they don't need pitty, just understanding so they are not made fun of. Bless you for wanting to actually know about this disease and trying to understand it.

People with autism are ones that live inside themselves. Depending on the severity (form) you may not even notice with some and others it is obvious. They will do things repetively like spin in circles, rock back and forth, hold themselves and rock. Autistic children often do not wish to have contact with people not wanting to be help or hugged. As adults many are able to function in life and live on their own while others are never more han a child and must live in group homes or with family. Suprisingly though most of your autistic people are very intellegent.

Autism is a psychological/developmental disorder that is usually noticed in childhood. It is often characterized by inability to communicate with the outside world, i.e. anyone other than one's self. Austistic people are often very into fantasy, because the world they live in is fantasy. In short, autism is a disorder which causes those suffering from it to live in a "different world," or one that is not based in reality. People who are severly autistic often cannot live alone. Those with mild autism or Asperger's syndrome can often live alone and without suspicion of their disorder.

Autism: Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Read up on it. I think that reading accurate information would be so much better than reading people who can answer here.
