Possible 20 year term plus loss of the building from which the illegal employment occurred.

What do you think?

Foxnews, apparently, they have started (although this was a pretty bad case, the guy was notified that 183 of his employees had wrong SS#s in a single month).

However, that is the possible sentence for a guy who is in court for aiding illegals, money laundering, and 38 other counts.

Nora, I see your point, but they do have deniability so long as the 'gophers' do the dirty work.

Kelly, you are preaching to the choir. They are trying to convince us that we can trust them to enforce the laws.

But you know what? We don't.

This is wonderful news! I liked the following statement from that article:

“We want to send the message that your cost of business just went up because you risk your livelihood, your corporate reputation and your personal freedom.”

It won't take all that many of these raids and there will be a definite ripple effect. As long at the penalties are very high, it will send the correct message to other employers of illegals. Soon, the illegals will find it harder and harder to find work and they will start going back home on their own. If they seriously want to "seek the American dream," they will return only after filing their applications to immigrate correctly.

Even where I live, in Canada, there was an article in one of our biggest newspapers this past Sunday all about the big crackdowns on employers who hire illegal immigrants in the USA. Prior to this, I had never seen anything about it in our local news. Which tells me, the news is definitely spreading far and wide!

Bravo! Bravo!

I think the title of the article should be "US Puts Onus on Middlemen for Employers of Immigrants" or something to that effect. The way this is being done seems like stomping on gophers instead of real enforcement.

I guess one shouldn't look a gifthorse in the mouth, though.
