I was so sad today because at the mall, a Hispanic woman asked me in Spanish if I could call a cab for her on my cell. It was 100 degrees out and she was holding an adorable baby boy. I noticed while I was calling that her face was covered in bruises, and she had a black eye. I asked her if her husband hit her, and she said yes, that he had beaten her during an argument. I know that the lady is not a legal citizen, because she told me what her husband does for a living. Can an illegal alien get protection from her husband? Especially since there is a little boy involved.

All you do is call the police and have an Officer make a report. I have made a lot of Domestic Battery reports for illegal Hispanics. If the other half was caught and it was taken to court, 98% of the time the battered women doesn’t want to press charges. The woman knows it’s going to be a LOT worse if they press charges. It’s very very sad.
In their home country, it is perfectly fine for a husband/boyfriend to beat on there wife/girlfriend. The females have no rights what so every. They do not know that in the USA everyone has a right to be protected and not beat on.

YES!she gets the same protection ... the only think as you said is that she is illegal so many will not come forth.Even women who are citizen of this country find it hard to come forth when they are in an abusive situations. You know you could start a Battered woman shelter. Get together with a few of your friends and get someone to write a grant and you are on your way to help the defenseless women... Go for it take the challenge... maybe the is your calling.

Get a hold of your local battered women shelter and tell them the ladies situation if you still know where she lives. They might be able to help you. I'm sure they can work in privacy if you ask them to. Otherwise she will just continue to be beat on. She may still fear deportation so it may be hard to convince her. Good luck . Thank you being a caring person.

How can you help her? Sadly, you probably can't. No one can, at least not until she is really ready to accept help. The vast majority of women don't leave abusive relationships until it gets so bad they fear death more than they fear him. And some of them never escape.
In law enforcement it was my experience that the men had the women so brain washed, they felt the couldn't function without them. When women called the police for help - they didn't really want him arrested, they just wanted you to make them stop. If you arrested the man you were taking away everything.

I know that, in San Antonio, the battered women's shelter will help any woman who is in fear of abuse, they won't even ask about citizenship. You could call the shelter in your city and see if they have the same policy, or at least if they can offer advice. They should be in the phone book. I think it is admirable that you want to help.

yes she can get help but only if she asks for it ... she needs to report it to the police ... depending upon the state if there is clear evidence of abuse (bruises, marks etc) then it's not up to the victim to decide to press charges it's automatically taken over by the state.

Absolutely they will help her. If you know where to find her now you can help her get to a battered womans shelter and they will help her and her kids find a safe place to be and maybe even help her get citizenship.
