And I'm not asking to be smart. I have complete and total respect for all of you. I'm just curious. Now that I'm out of college, I wish I would have joined.

And also...THANK YOU!

Um not anymore.

I joined bc it was the best option available.

Most enlistees are joining for the same reason anyone joins a company.

Food, Shelter, Companionship and trying to make a future.

I joined because I was tired of sitting in boring classes in high school. I figured that it was not going to get better in college. I also saw the Army as a way to get training in a job without the boring stuff. I work in telecommunications in the Army and all I have is a high school diploma. I also joined because it is a decent pay check. You will not get rich but it pays the bills. I will tell you that I reenlisted because of 9/11. Not to be a hero but just to do my part when it counted the most. Just because you did not join right out of high school or college does not mean you still can't join. Give me an email at chkibo2000@yahoo.com if you have more questions.

I joined for the challege, and the chance to serve my country, and the freedoms that we have. I beleive this is to be one of my greatest experiences in my life, and you have the chance to to serve others and their freedom.
I was also inspired my an Great Uncle who served in WWI, and other family members who served in Korea, and Viet nam.
It is never to late to join they are now taking people up to 42 years old, and there are some good benefits if one does not have a job. If you have a degree you could join as an officer, or warrent officer which both make pretty good money. If you are looking for a part-time experience then the Reserves or National Guard could be for you. If interested let me know.

I was bored.
I was living on my own and I graduated with high honors and my parents could have sent me to any college I wanted to. I wasn't going to go to college to party and waste their money.
I like jets and mechanics and stuff, so I went in for weapons on the F-15 fighter jets. It was easy and it's fun now. The people you work with are really fun. The teamwork and friends are great. I wanted to be a fighter pilot, but there is a lot of schooling to do. I should have done it.
Unless you're 35 you can still join. There were plenty of people in their 20's in basic training (boot camp) And it's not hard at all. It's fun. (Air Force)
After basic training and tech school it's just like any other job... you have a boss, and they have a boss, you have co-workers, etc. You just wear a uniform, learn how to use m-16's, and have to salute your boss's boss (officers). you get paid for your uniforms and food and rent, dependents, etc. It's not bad at all.

The cartoon "GI Joe" as a kid and the show "Tour of Duty" when I was older. The little green army men I sued to play with may have had something to do with it, same with old World War 2 movies.

I can't remember not wanting to be in the military.

The Army paid for my College, than my Masters degree, and I have been selected to get a 2nd Masters with the Army's Advanced Civil Schooling program.

This conflict, the so-called Global War on Terror, is my generation's war. I'm nineteen years old- I grew up listening to my grandfathers' stories of World War Two (grandfather on my mother's side was in the navy, grandfather on my father's side was an officer in the Nationalist Chinese Army), and my Uncle's stories of Vietnam. I am the first in my family, of my generation, to join the armed forces and serve in a war. It was my turn to serve, I felt, and I think I would have forever regretted passing up the chance to be part of "the" war of my generation.

I joined to build discipline and character, become less lazy (I'm much better at time management now), to get money for school, to get real world experience and see the world while I'm young, and yes, to serve my country wherever and whenever it needs me. Even when my country doesn't support me.
