Well, we don't have much information to go on. For instance - how old are you. Girls usually have their first period anywhere from age 11 to 16. If you are in that age range, you may just not have gotten it yet (although 16 is a pretty late age to get it, but not unusual). Have you been sexually active without protection? If so, you could be pregnant. Sometimes very athletic, thin or muscular girls have delayed menstruation, this is due to low body fat. There could also be other medical reasons. If you think you should have had your period by now, or if you think you could be pregnant, definately see a doctor or nurse practitioner.

What we're talking about here is puberty. A woman's first menstrual period is actually one of the very LAST stages in puberty, occurring usually less than two years ofter puberty starts.

One of the first signs of puberty in females is the formation of firm, tender lumps (also called 'breast buds') directly under the center of the nipples, usually accompanied by some enlarging of the areolae.

So those are your waypoints. If you have breast buds, then you have begun puberty. You can expect a period in a little less than two years. If not, then you will clearly have to wait a bit for puberty to even begin.

There aren't a whole lot of things that have been observed to interfere concretely with the timing but, as mentioned before, starvation diets is one of them. Extremely traumatic events can be another. Hopefully neither of these apply to you!

Some girls don't have their first period till 15-16 years. If you are over 16 and have not had your period you should get a checkup.

Like, why does it take so long for you to get your first period?? It depends on the person and when her mother started hers....It just takes time. But don't rush it, enjoy the freedom while you can cuz once it starts there's no turning back!

If you don't have your first period then it was not your first period.

You have to HAVE it before it becomes your first period.
