Only the US has repressive laws against it's citizens, keeping them out of Cuba. It's a pity what the sugar lobby and the tobacco lobby can do when left unchecked. Basically, if you are from any other country in the world you can go and enjoy Cuba.

I would love to go there soon. I know people who went and they say it is great. There is a lot of poverty, but that is all the more reason to go, and stimulate the economy. Most of the hotel areas are safe, similar to Mexico and other poor areas, they don't allow locals to loiter around the hotels unless they work there.

The U.S government still does not allow travel to Cuba without a special permit. However if you manage to get there While I'm sure Cuba has ghettos just like America to avoid, I believe most of Cuba is quite safe.

May I recommend to hold that trip until there are news about what's going on with Mr. Fidel Castro?
In case he dies (if he hasn't already) Cuba might not be a secure place to be in.

Goodluck!

I didn't think you could travel to Cuba, I thought the government didn't allow it.
