What is 'average'?
You mean the 'mean' which is the sum of all human legs divided by the number of humans. Given that some people have only one leg, and very few have more than two, the mean number of legs per person is less than two.
You could have used the median, which is the mid point if you rank all humans by the number of legs they have. You'd get 2 legs, since the number of people at the extremes (1 or 0 leg, and 3 or more legs) is low compared to the number of people with 2 legs. The issue with using the median is that you can end up with fractions which do not really make sense, just like the mean you used above. (For example if enough people grew a third leg, then the 'average' person would have say 2.35 legs).
The correct measure to use is the 'mode' which tells you what is the number of legs most people have. Then the answer would be two, and most of us would be 'average'.

I've always considered myself to be different from the rest . . . I guess this proves it. What with my two complete legs.

I guess that would make me "different" because I have 2 legs. But I don't mind being different. It makes life more interesting :-)
