My roomie is a hostess at a restaurant/pub in down town San Diego. She makes $9.50 and hour and gets a cut of all the waiters tips too.
This will differ depending on where you live, and hers is a little more than usual because San Diego is such an expensive city.

depends on the resturant, they get a % of the wait staff or just 7-8 bucks an hour
