Are there any cat psychologists out there? We live in an apartment with 3 happy, content, very well looked after cats. When they’re out on the balcony, and it looks like they want in, they’ll be sitting there looking in the glass door, but when you open it for them they just flop over and stretch and look really cute. It’s not that they want to be scratched, they don't, I just don’t know why they always roll around especially on cement.

Hi,

Probably because thats all they have to roll on. I live in the country, and my cats roll in the dirt all the time. It's a natural way for them to clean the oils, etc. out of their hair!

With mine though, they come in with the dirt just flying off them, like Pigpen on the Peanuts cartoons! Be happy your guys only have concrete!

They're just trying to get their fur clean!

My cats roll on everything. Cement, grass, wood, it doesn't matter to them. Maybe the cement is cool like the grass is in the summer. I have a cat too named Mr. Fuzzy who rolls in front of my feet whenever I come home. It is a greeting. I had another cat that used to do that a long time ago. He almost tripped me several times. LOL.

The radiational heat coming from the concrete feels just like a warming pad to them on the sunny days. The texture also gives a great surface to scrub off the loose hairs.

I think cats play mind games with humans. They sit outside looking like they want inside, so you open the door for them. They roll over (probably laughing) because they have so much control over us (or at least mine do ;-))

Cats will do this because they like the hot or cold pavement. This is very common for cats. Even indoor cats do it. They roll around on the floor.

My cat would follow me up the drive-way and roll all the way down on her back, twitching side to side. I think their scratching their back's when they do that. Sometimes they'll even roll around in the dirt.

My cats like to roll on carpet, tile, cement, dirt, grass, the sofa, whatever.

I think they like the feel of it. Also they are rubbing their scent on it. It's a territorial thing.

My older cats go crazy to roll on the cement. It is almost like catnip to them. My newer one doesnt do that, but she hasnt ever been outside to try it. I figure they like the texture.

Our 10 mo. old kitten goes outside on a leash & harness, but often he'll just go to the patio and roll around. I don't understand it either, but he sure looks happy while he's doing it!

Cause it's nice and warm wouldn't you like that if you roll on a heated surface.
