This is a special style of beer like the Trappiste but not made by these monks. One is called Duvel. There are others.

I've had St. Bernardus. It's OK but honestly, I like Guiness. I've have beers from all over the world (you should try some of the beers from Asia and Russia). There's a lot of good beers out there.

These Trappist-style beers are different from what most people are used to and many will not like them, at least not at first. I have tried many of them including Duvel, Chimay and my favourite, Leffe. If you get one on tap in a restaurant, it's important that the barman knows how to draw it into the glass. If he doesn't follow the correct procedure, you will end up with a glass that is 50% foam.
My advice is to try these and stick with it. You develop a taste for them.
Also, I have tried a New York state beer a few years ago that was a Chimay Red knock-off and it was pretty darn good. The LCBO here in Ontario has since de-listed it and I forget the name.

The beers from Belgium run the gamut when it comes to flavor. Duvel is a big name. So is La Chouffee, Chimay, Kwak, etc.

Yes, I have. Delicious but lethal. There is a Belgian beer called Morte Subite. (translation: sudden death). Beware, these beers are very potent.
