This is a great smoothie we had while vacationing in Kauai at a local smoothie store. We went to the store many times. This is what we think by trial and error what the recipe was after we came back from vacation. (You can adjust the ingredients based on your taste)

1 ripe banana
2 cups of fresh pineapple (cubed)
2 cups of ice
2 cups of canned pineapple juice
1 table spoon of honey
1/2 lemon, squeeze lemon juice

Put everything in a blender and blend at medium to high speed (depends on your blender) for a minute.

My favourite is ripe mango blended with freshly squeezed or juiced clementines, but you could use orange juice to be lazy. Just chuck the mango, juice and some ice into a smoothie maker. If you want something sort of milky but don't want to use milk, try soya milk. One banana, 250ml unsweetened soya milk, honey and a heaped spoonful of ground almonds makes a really nice breakfast smoothie. If you have a juicer, you could try juicing 4 apples, 2 large sticks of celery and 1 raw, peeled beetroot, and blitz that in a smoothie maker with ice. Sounds odd but it's lovely.

In a blender, add ice to the top. Add what ever fruit (fresh or frozen) or fruit juice you like. You can also add plain or fruit flavored yogurt, ice cream, or sorbet. My favorite is: 3 TB spoons of frozen strawberries, 1 cup orange juice, 1/2 banana, and maybe 1/2 a can of pineapple chunks and lots of ice.

depends on what sort of smoothie you are going for. No matter what, you'll need some fruits. pick out your favorites.
you can chop up your own and freeze them overnight. or just buy some at the grocery store, next to the frozen veggies. they're cheaper than buying fresh ones.
If you want it to be really creamy, add some vanilla yogurt and a bit of sugar. if you'd prefer it to be healthy, just put in a bit of milk.
the key is to experiment to your tastes.
you may want to add ice too, or syrups. but I don't think those really help the taste, personally.

Put 1/2 cup of plain or vanilla yogurt in a blender. Add a tablespoon of honey or 2 teaspoons of sugar. Then put in the fruits of your choice. Strawberries and bananas are good. Add a few tablespoons of orange juice or milk. Then add a few ice cubes if you want it really cold (optional). Blend until smooth. Yum!

Basically, it's whatever you have on hand in your fridge but I like the following combination:

Strawberries
Blueberries
Raspberries
Juice from a lime
Orange Juice or Pineapple Juice
Ice

Blend all of it together until smooth and ice is in slivers.

for a tropical one... mangoes, papaya, pineapple, kiwi and strawberries, all in equal parts or according to your whims. add shaved ice (or cubes) and milk (substitute heavy cream if you want it extra rich or non-fat milk if you want it lean and mean). add light syrup to taste if you have a sweet tooth.
