It has been found that salt intake does not cause high blood pressure. High blood pressure is caused by chronic dehydration. When you don't drink enough water to satisfy the needs of the cells, a reverse osmosis process kicks in to filter water from the area outside the cells and inject it into the cells. These areas inside and outside the cells are called "oceans" and must be maintained in a critical balance. The injection process requires an increase in pressure, and it's this pressure increase that is reflected in the blood pressure readings. High blood pressure is not heredity. It's the result of bad lifestyle choices drinking soft drinks and other beverages instead of water like the body was intended. Maintaining your hydration levels with plain water and a slight increase in salt will prevent not just high blood pressure, but many other health problems as well.

Two not to do: don't smoke and don't drink a lot. Drinking weakens your heart. Exercising will help lower your blood pressure, but start out small. Don't try to overdo it in the beginning. Work your way up. Aerobic exercise is the best, like running, bike riding, etc.

exercise 30mins daily (to target heart rate of 80% of 220-age), eat well balanced meals (5-9 servings fruit and veggies, lean meat only, etc), be happy with your life (laugh as much as you can, hug three people a day, forgive yourself and others).

And still you may get high blood pressure (If your genes say that you are destined to have it). But if you do the above, you are well ahead of the game.
