risk your own life in doing so would you save their life?

Good question. If the time ever came to pass I hope I would be a good enough person and not think of myself but the person that needed the help. There have been times of crisis that I have acted to help a person in need without ever thinking of the consequences. We think of the other person first.

Strange question to ask -- is it for the moral argument or what other purpose in asking like this?

If for the moral argument -- any parent who leaves an abuser (and takes their children with them out of the situation) IS Saving a life or more than one life -- because sooner or later the abuser will kill the target of their rages, and then go on to the children.

I can give other examples -- because there are everyday heroes out there -- the police officer that puts his life on the line to make sure the woman leaves her abusive boyfriend/husband, the firefighter who enters the burning building to save the folks inside, the Military who back up their comrades to make sure that they survive yet another mission, etc etc etc.

It depends on who the person was. If it was someone I knew and/or cared for, most definitely. If it was a total stranger, it would depend on the situation.
