I have added a link with information on leukaemia's. My daughter had AML her prognosis wasnt as good as if she had ALL. But she is doing great. The first answer wasnt a very nice way of putting it but with leukaemia because it does affect the white blood cells which fight infection, there are people who get very sick from infections, that a person with out leukaemia would fight off easy. Hope the information helps. Im not 100% about the white blood count, I have read that a person with leukeamia has a raised white count and low platelet and haemoglobin levels, these are immature cells, these have not developed into cells to help the body fight infection.

my doctors thought that i had leukemia and your white blood count is suppost to be a decimal number like my last blood test showed that mine were 3.5....when they thought i had this cancer i had to stay away from people for about three months until my whitw blood counts came up, which you should know white blood cells fight infection....i had to stay away from people becuase if someone had a cold and i caught it, i could have possibly died.
