Ok reason why i ask. 6 years ago i ran into some bad credit situations. i had a card with a 10k balance, never pd for it and never had collectors after me. I then recived from call from a guy wanting that money. i laughed and said yea right, i then recived a summons to court. After doing some research, i showed up to court and told them that they were outside of the Statue of Limitations. This is CA, the case was thrown out...

I serve a lot of summons for companies that purchase bad debt for pennies on the dollar, then try to collect the debt in just the same manner as you described.

I agree that many times, the debt falls outside of the statute (not statue) of limitations. More people should do what you did, and show up to court with an argument.

You don't show up, and the court will grant a default judgement against you.
