Is the coincidence merely a random intersection of space and time (a co-incident) to give us what appears to be a meaningful event? What do you think? If you want your answer chosen then don't belittle the question - answer it honestly.

I don't believe in coincidences. Everything happens for a reason.

Coincidences are accidental by definition. People often mistake them for having some meaning associated with destiny. The catch is that no one can prove that an event did not occur by destiny and that's why the whole concept is appealing. The idea behind the Da Vinci Code is a good example. Certain traits in Da Vinci's paintings were found to parallel with ideas in the Bible, but the reality is that it was totally random. If I downloaded a thousand paintings by the same artist, I could find some common trait among all of them and tie it to Jesus if I wanted to because there are hundreds of thousands of traits you can use, so people are fooled by the chances of these kinds of coincidences occurring. If you're interested in this kind of stuff, get the book "fooled by randomness", it is AWESOME. You can get it for 9 bucks on amazon, here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0812975219/sr=8-1/qid=1154397494/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-3589323-1436725?ie=UTF8

If I understand you, what you want to know is if we, out here in yahoo-land, believe in coincidences. Are we just all wondering around, bumping into each other or do we meet for a moment for a purpose?
I guess it depends on how you want to look at it. Pessimistically one could say things just happen with no higher reason. Like ripples overlapping in a pond. The Optimist might say that some sort of Karma is at work in everything that happens.
As for me, I hope that life is more than a bunch of random events and that there is a bigger organization to everything.

Actually, over the years, we store more and more information. Sometimes a smell or sound can "set off" a random memory that for some reason responds to this event. To me, its like remembering a dream in the middle of the day for no reason. It just happens and you never know why.

So, to reiterate. An event, triggering a memory of another event for some unknown reason, that we have "no known connection for." This is what stumps us, the fact that these two events are seemingly random without connection. However, as stated above, so many things such as smell are known to be memory triggers and alot of the time its unconscious, much like breathing.

Humans have evolved to look for meaning. Particularly when something bad happens, we want to feel the there was a reason, some rational that accounts for loss of life or property; something that means it should have happened.

We also have a lack of understanding when it come to probability. We often under or over estimate the chance of something occuring. Just as you sometimes see pictures in the clouds, if you bake enough pizzas, sooner or later one is going to look like it has Jesus face on it.

Coincidences are just that, incidents (events) that happen at the same time (co - together). It is our hopes and aspirations that make us see them as something else.

That's a tough one.

I do think we're all here for a reason & that everything else serve a purpose.
That our Lord does work in mysterious ways.
As much as I'd like to admit that I'm a skeptic, I can't dispel the fact that there's a higher being above us at work & that there is some divine intervention which are beyond my comprehension.
We, as the human race like to see/ believe what we want to anyway - for all its possibilties.
That itself... hope is what fuels our ever inquisitive nature to discover about the truth more.

According to science, a coincidence is a scientific anomaly. Which means there is absolutely no reason it should have happened. According to Christianity, everything happens for a reason. I happen to believe in the latter of the two explanations.

In my opinion and I stress MY. there is no such thing as coincidence or luck either. Everything that happens is for a reason. Coincicence has no place in my belief. Peace.

I believe in a kind of fate. I believe that certian things do happen that set the course for our lives. I believe that we all have a purpose in life. And life will eventually get us there.
