I have been on all kinds of antidepressants! If you don't have to them please don't take them. Last I was one lexapro, its worked great I was on cloud nine but it made my memory bad and I had NO sex drive whatsoever! It has horrible and very hard on my relationship. Then my doctor put me on welbutrin, I like it much better, I havent had any sexual side effects and I still think it works...sometimes, plus if you are trying to quit smoking it works great for that too! I didn't plan on quitting but I have lost my desire to smoke. In addition to all of that I have ativan for anxiety which works good for me. You just have to remember EVERY person is different so if you are going to be on them you may have to go through quite a few before you find the right one that can work for you. BUT like I said if you absolutely don't need it then don't do it! Its hard to get off of them once you start, I'm 21 now and actually happy about my meds, but I dont know weather I will be on them the rest of my life or not. Just think about it.

I have been on alot of different anti-depressants. The main one that affected my sex drive was Paxil.
What do you mean by working? Am I happy once in a while, whereas before was never. I judge it works when I am stable able to resist harmful thoughts.
I have had to try many different ones/combos before I finally found something that I have been stable on for any length of time. I have been on the current regimine of Lexapro (5mg), Trileptal (450 mg), and Seroquel (200mg) for almost 2 years.
I tried :
Klonipin
Geodon
Risperidol
Wellbutrin
Amitryptiline
Prozac - was like taking water,
Paxil - worked well for quite a while, came of because of sexual side affect,
Serzone
Topomax
Zyprexa - gained toooo much weight (I have several medical conditions and can not afford extra pounds)
Some did nothing while others either worked a little or had unbearable side effects.

Yes I have tried different ones. I am currently on Lamictol--a mood stabilizer and a nerve pill/ I found that Effexor helped me when I was really tripping out but when I took it again a few years later, it did nothing at all to help me. Then I was on and off Depakote for a number of years. It causes weight gain and increased sexual side effects. =--not decreased sex drive lol.
ok the well butrin did nothing for me. That was like taking an aspirin lol. I then took Lexapro and that worked pretty well. I decided to get off the Depakote and I did have withdrawals. But using Depokate with Lexapro and the nerve pill, my sex drive was decreased and I could care less about it. Now I am on those two ones I mentioned earlier. They are not suppose to have any sexual side effects and you do not have to have those routine blood tests or worry about kidney or liver damage. So you really have to see for yourself which works best for you. You will know after a couple of months. Gosh this is embarrassing to talk about. lol

Hello! I'm currently on Effexor, and have been for 4 years. I have had no side effects with the Effexor. It's really helped a lot. Previous to that, I was on many of the anti-depressants listed here. I had very serious withdrawl symptoms from Paxil when I went off of it. I think you should be careful of the withdrawl symptoms as well.

I was on paxil (anti depressant) and zyprexa (antipsychotic), and yes they deadened my sex drive a little. But after about 6 months, I adjusted and my boyfriend just had to try a little harder to make me feel good, that's all.
I also felt kind of detached; not crazy or anything, just like I didn't really have a care in the world. In some ways, it's a good feeling to be so carefree. For the most part I would say the meds really helped me a lot. The worst part is getting on (you feel kind of weird), and getting off (you feel really dizzy and your brain makes a sort of popping sound).

I'm on Lexapro 20 mgs...they just upped my dosage about a week ago. I was on 10 mgs for about a month and a half. And I'll put it like this. Birth control had my sex drive on life support and Lexapro pulled the plug. Quite sad. but now I'm taking Klonopin to help with my anxiety and its revived it some. But yeah for the most part the Lexapro helps my depression but I still have some bad days. doesn't do much for the anxiety though.

I have terrible, terrible PMS, and I have to take two antidepressants to keep it under control. Otherwise, for about ten days a month I am a screaming, crying, hysterical wreck. I take Zoloft and Wellbutrin. I've been on the Zoloft for two years I think and the Wellbutrin for one. I don't have any side effects at all, including loss of sex drive. Wellbutrin is thought to have the least amount of side effects when it comes to sex drive. I don't know about Zoloft. I hate taking them, but I hate being miserable and hysterical too. It's a trade-off, and I owe it to my family to take care of myself. Good luck.

I've been taking EffexorXR for 2.5 years. Works great. Infact, probably saved my life. Getting off of them is really hard, so ask about that before you start taking one. I have had no sexual side effects.

I'm not. I know someone who is. Taking Lexapro and it is working, everyone sees the difference. There is a sexual side effect of delayed ejaculation (which may or may not be a bad thing) (male)
