Alternate heat and cold. Apply an ice pack for NO MORE than 20 minutes, then an hour later, apply a heating pad for no more than 20 minutes. Also, use something like BenGay or Icy Hot or Tiger Balm on the area. Take some sort of inflamatory medication such as ibuprofin. Lay on your side with a pillow between your knees, or on your back with a pillow under your knees. If the problem is with your lower back, do not lay on your stomach! Don't lift heavy objects, and don't twist. Don't cross your legs when you sit, don't wear shoes with heels, and don't sit for more than an hour without getting up and walking around a little bit. If you can, take a walk every day. I know this is a lot of stuff, but this is all advice my chiropractor gave me when I slipped a disc in my back a few years ago. Unfortunatly, if there is something like a slipped disc involved, you will need chiropractic care. Good luck!

I hope what you are saying, it is a backache. Sometimes different areas of the back is related to something else. Are you sure it is a backache.? Alot of times people think they have a backache , ecspecially if it is on the the lower side of the back, it is your kidney. If it is right in the middle, up your spine, than it is back related. But if the pain is more on the side, depending if it is high or low. it can mean other things going on. A severe kidney infection will cause alot of pain, on the lower side of the back. You should have a someone check you out. Even stress or pulled muscle will feel like a backache. So you may need either hot or cold depending on the condition. My daughter thought she had a backache for several months, and she kept using a heating pad, and extra strength tylenol. Ibuprophen is good for inflammation. She was in tears, quite a few times until she went to the Dr and found out she had a kidney infection. So she needed antibiotics. Which helped her tremondously!! So we can't really say what you can use until you know for sure, what is going on.

Put a few inches of very warm water in your tub and then slide down into it so it covers your entire back. Wet your face towel and cover your chest if it is not submerged. Your head and knees will be sticking out of the water if you can understand what I mean.
Apply back plasters over the area that hurts. Wear it to bed. Wear back plasters to work the next day too. I was working outdoors a few years ago and the job involved bending and lifting approximately approx. five - ten pound objects all day. I know I should have stayed home but when I had a back ache, I'd wear back plasters and a girdle under my clothing.

It may sound weird, but try some PMS medicine. These are created to help with cramps which can also help with back muscle cramps.
Check into massage schools in your area - sometimes you can find a cheap massage at one of these places and they are supervised so it isn't like they will hurt you.
Alternate heat and ice. That's what my doctor has told me when I had back problems. "Icy Hot" is great too - start out with a little because too much will make you sweat!

i have a couple of possible solutions for you. Use a hot compress on your back for 20 minutes then a cold for 20 min. If that doesn't work use an icy hot patch. and if that doesn't work either smoke the red stuff in a peanut. I don't know if it will help the back ache but it will make you feel better

I had really bad back pain, to the point I wasnt able to get out of bed anymore. I had to make an appointment with a chiropractor and it was only $36 for the visit. insurance not inlcuded. You should call around and see how much they charge. I would really recommend one.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy the large size SOLONPAS near the Pharmacy. They are a peel-n-stick kinda of heat patch. Place one or more on your back tonight before you go to bed. By morning your gonna love me.... really.
Everyone I have told this too swears by it. I have degenerative disk and when in pain one day grabbed some and put one on in the store. Within a few minutes while sitting down it felt better and I was able to continue with my shopping. Great for Arthritis and muscle soreness too!

Heating pads, Tiger Balm (works the best out of all the OTC products out there) and Advil or Aleve.
Tylenol does not have anti-inflammatory properties.

Advil is much better for back pain then Tylenol. Soak in a hot bath for a while, drink lots of water and get some rest off of your feet. You should be feeling better soon.

Try sleeping on the floor, put down a blanket or two and use a thick pillow, and stay on your back all night if you can, it worked for me, so know i sleep on a real hard matres and i do not have any more trouble. or put a piece of plywood between your mat, and box spring, if your mat has some sag in it,
