Water the lawn after sunset and in an hour if there are nightcrawlers in the area they will surface. Good luck. Catch some bigguns.

It depends what kind of climate you live in ,is it cold or is it warm?
these are some ?'s you should asking your self. Worms or nightcrawlers they live in very cold climates and they only like to come out when it is dark. If you do live in that cold climate and you are fortune to have nightcrawlers coming up ,and you keep them for further use . Soak some newspaper in water ,then get potting soil and combine the newspaper and soil store N/C in styrofoam and keep in your fridge make sure the mixer is moist.
Nightcrawlers eat the newspaper so be sure there is enough paper.Store in a good size container could really be anything
We stored ares in a bucket put little holes in lid so they can breath N/C reproduce pretty quickly .We had some that were quite fat and long ,longest one was 8 inches long.We let them go
in the garden. Some time in the winter they come out.
or
why don't you just buy some there not that much maybe $3-5 bucks for a cup of 24/12

you will probably have to wait till after dark. worms start moving uptoward the surface then. That is if your lawn has nightcrawlers. If you spray or fertilize the lawn, they may not be present. I like to hunt them on a drizzle type warm rain in the summer.

Water really well about 1 hr before sunset, wait until 2hrs after dark before you start to search, a key tip is when searching try not to shine your light directly on them or they will bolt back to china. if you want red worms or pin worms, sprinkle some reg laundry detergent on the lawn before you start to water. it will not harm shrubs or flower beds, or grass, good hunting!!!!

Been pretty hot just about everywhere, so it may take alot.
Why don't you try to find a ditch w/ leaves or pine straw laying in it, we always find them there no matter how hot.
Or better yet go to the bait shop.
