My minor is in English Literature and sometimes I wish I had majored in English Literature rather than business. The reason? I love to write but my mind is not quite creative enough to make money at it and I am smart enough to realize that, so I went business. Anyway, do not listen to these people that tell you there is only teaching opportunities for English majors. Teaching is a fine respectable profession but there is other things you can do out there. Business management or a staff position I would think could be an area you could look into, as attention to detail is very important when it comes to many business documents and especially legal docs would beg for an English major. Think about it and good luck.

Teaching won't make you a lot of money. You'd have to get a credential and all that junk.
With Engl degree you can always work in an editorial department of a publishing company or magazine, or public relations firm. You might want to consider Communications as your major and put down "journalism" or "advertising" as your concentration. This is what I should've done but I just went straight for English. I have a BA in English and I'm currently working for an online advertising company, doing editorial work. Not too shabby. :)

SPECIAL EDUCATION is the ONLY WAY TO GO if you want a secure teaching position which will give you adequate financial status as you pursue or research publishing career part time.

My husband was an English major and he is a human resources manager. I think you might want to minor in communications to pursue publishing.

if you want to teach, consider going into education, or english education if you definitely know you want to teach english. you can also minor in something that could help with the publishing thing.

for publishing you would need a communications degree as well. may be able to sneak in and get a entry level job doing that kind of work.

Get into publishing/editing for books, magazines or newspapers. Maybe an ad agency copywriter.

Teaching is very rewarding. Try doing that while you are writing your book.
