If you have a microwave, get a washcloth, get it wet and put it in there for about 2 minutes. Or you can put it in a pan of hot water on the stove. Good luck.

Sure take a small cloth bag or a small pillow case like a travel size pillow and fill it about 2/3 with rice, (uncooked). And you heat it in a microwave for 2 - 3 minutes. Its called a rice bag. You'll have to sew the top across or if you make it from something else, sew all the sides closed. But I have one and it works like a charm. Better than a heating pad. But you can use it over and over again. I've had the same rice bag for 5 years now. A friend told me about it. I hope it helps. Don't make it too big, about the size of a school book should be good enough.

If you have a microwave, you can make quick and inexpensive heat pack by taking a clean sport sock and filling it with plain rice (uncooked.) Do not pack it tight, you want a bit of room in order to have more flexibility. Stitch the top together, and then heat in your microwave for 30 second intervals, until it is comfortably warm to the touch. If you want to have a scented heat pack you mix a few springs of lavender or some cloves or small pieces of cinnamon into the rice before filling the sock. Hope this helps. Have a good night!!

My husband hurt his shoulder and I made this simple heating and cold pack. It doesn't work as well for the cold, but your can make two of them.
I took two washcloths and sewed them together, leaving a little hole and filled it with beans. You can use any kind of small, dried beans. I sewed it up and you can put it in the microwave or freeze it. What is great about it, is that when the beans get hot, they hold the heat for at least 30-45 minutes and they kind of get moist. Not wet, just a little moist, which is supposed to be better than dry heat. It also molds around the site that you need it.

You can make a rice pack.

Fill a clean sock with rice. Leave enough room for the sock to be flexible. Tie the end closed. Heat a minute or 2 in the microwave & place it on your ankle.

Rice Holds heat very well. Cook some rice and you can continue to microwave it afterwards if you need it to stay warm. YOu can place the rice into 2 ziplocs and then keep it on your ankle. Hope this helps :-)

do you have a microwave oven? Put a wet washcloth in it...for about a minute (or less)...check it, to see if it's warm enough...take it out, wrap it around your ankle, then wrap with plastic to keep heat in...just be careful, and don't get the washcloth too hot, before you apply to your skin.

get an old sock, fill it with either rice or birdseed, and tie up the end of the sock. Put it in the microwave for a minute or so until it's warm.

my daughter had to do that and we didnt have a heating pad either (though you can get one for about 10.00 at walmart)
we used hot washcloths.... i kept hot water in a pan beside her so that she could drop the cloth in it inbetween... when that water got cool i went and got some more...
if worse comes to worse, leave the ice off longer inbetween sessions... make sure you keep the ankle propped up...

yeah my sister paid about $30 for a haet pack that was made of cloth....the cat ripped it open and it was just chicken feed wrapped in a cloth.... so she made hers out of regular white rice.... wrapped in a cheap material.... go to the arts and craft store and you can find fairly cheap nice material....you put it in the microwave...for about 30 seconds and boom there you go a very long warm but not burning heat source.......
