My sons havent been on Adderal but are on the ritalin patch. Just thought Id pipe in to tell you to ignore these people who say rude things about small kids on meds. To each family their own, for us (Im a single mom with 2 kids with multiple problems ages 4 and 3) meds work. They calm them which calms me and we all are better off. For others they dont feel its right. Fine, dont attack a person for doing what is best for them and their families.

Hi. My son was diagnosed with adhd at five. He tried several medications including adderal. It was really bad. When the medicine started to leave his system he became oppositional and defiant. I'm not saying this will happen to you. My son is now nine. He's been diagosed a couple of diffent things. My family just came to the conclusion that medicine isn't always the answer. We decided to look at lifestyle and eating habits. My son is still considered adhd, but at least now we don't have him "rebounding" when the medicine is leaving his system and he's happy, not lethargic. Please, remember that your son is three. He's supposed to be a little wound up. He just came out of terrible twos. Remeber, also, doctors don't know everything. You know your son best.

What you need is to disipline and understand your child at that age, don't rely on meds just to make your job easier. Being hyper isn't always bad at least until school where learning is at stake. I personally don't beleive in medicating ADD as my sis was "diagnosed" with it. My parents refused to medicate her and now she is a comp programmer and has an I.Q. of 150. and due to her high metabolism has quite a good figure at 34 and after 3 kids of her own.

At least consider waiting until say 5-6 to get re-evaluated. and if your going to accept a diagnosis that requires long-term meds consider a second opinion (perhaps one with a child's psychiatrist? Maybe there's an underlying issue with the behavior)

Adderal is an extended release form of ritalin and is generally used more in adults or teenagers. Children at three need discipline. Not drugs.

from what i understand, it is customary to diagnose ADD around the age of 5. I would not think it is a good idea to put such a small child on an ADD medicine at that age. Have you tried other methods of dealing with his behavior? Talk to a child psychologist, one who is NOT pro-medicine, and find out ways to change the behavior before starting any medicine. Good luck!

Any parent who allows their child to be on Adderall, needs to have their kids forcibly removed from their custody.

I agree with Prime. We are too willing to drug our problems away. ADD and ADHD are real, but not at that age.

I started Adderall this year, and it's a life-saver. I wish I had it when I was younger.

If your doctor is suggesting this, get a new doctor. Immediately.
