Thank you! one of you knows that you signal, then check over your shoulder then change lanes.
I agree, pick a very quiet lane. Have them do the procedure over and over when there is no one around. They need to be able to keep speed during the lane change also. That takes practice.

always stay in the right or slow lane .... If you must change lanes for whatever reason, alway put your turn signal on for at least 3 seconds before switching lanes.. this warns everyone that you are coming over... then when it is safe to do so switch lanes and turn off your signal...

I would place them in a slow four lane with minimal traffic. Then have them just drive in the same lane for awhile. When they feel comfortable and the other lane is empty, have them check behind them, both in the mirror and over their left shoulder(or whichever lane they're changing to) in their blind spot, then turn on signals, take a quick look, and then slid on over. I'd have them do that for awhile.

Check all mirrors, plus turn your head around to make sure there's nothing in the blind spot.

Turn on your turn signal.

Double check for other drivers. Move into the other lane.

I was taught S.M.O.G.
Signal
Mirror
Over the Shoulder
Go

Basically, turn on your turn signal, look in the mirror, look to the side, and when it is clear switch lanes.
