I think rat poison is supposed to kill rats by making their insides bleed. So, I don't see how it could be any different for dogs. If your dog swallowed some then you need to bring it to the vet to get its stomach pumped or something. You don't wanna risk it.

If you suspect that your animal has ingested Warfarin, or any other rodent poison, take your animal to the vet immediately.

While you are on the way to the vet, give poison control a ring, and see if they can help you while your trying to get your dog in...

Typcially, rat poisons cause the rodents to bleed to death by disintegrating their organs - internal bleeding.

Depending on the amount of poison your dog may have ingested, this could happen to your friend. Typically your dog may have a rigid abdomen, bleed from rectum, mouth and any orifice. By the time you see these symptoms, it may be too late.

If you have carbon paste sitting around (most people don't!) you might induce vomitting.

If you have waited for people to answer your question via the internet, you may have already lost your pet.

GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND TAKE YOUR DOG TO THE VET.

If you suspect your dog has eaten rat poison, get him to the vet ASAP. I had to take my dog to an emergency vet one time and there was a couple with a dog and they weren't sure if the dog had eaten rat poison. It turned out the dog had and, if they had waited for symptoms to appear, the dog would have died.

Oh my gosh. I hope you aren't worrying that maybe your dog ate poison and you are only now asking what the symptoms would be!! There may be no symptoms except death. If your dog would eat anything you feel is dangerous, quickly force a teaspoon (depending on size of dog) of table salt down the dog's throat. This will cause them to throw up.

If you think that happened get to a vet ASAP!!! If the dog ate rat poison that contains warfarin, the dog will have clotting problems, but this can be treated with Vitamin K injections.

Hurry!!

my dogs did that once. i don't remember much except they got really lethargic and we looked where the poison had been and it had been eaten by something bigger than a rat. we took them to the vet and they gave them like 5 coffee cups full of something to make them throw it up. If you think your dog has eaten rat poison i suggest you act quickly on it.

If you have concern that your pet ate rat poison get to the vet immediately. Ask for the treatment. It is vitamin K for 30 days. It is less expensive than any of the tests and has no negative side effects.

There may be NO symptoms until the dog bleeds to death a couple of days later.

Get him to a vet right now. You can reverse the problem by giving him fresh frozen plasma (your dog needs coagulation factors found in blood-the vit. k dependant ones.)
